Shooting death ruled a homicide

The shooting death that occurred last month in Halifax has been ruled a homicide.

At 11:30 p.m. on January 26, Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a man who had been shot at Connaught Avenue and Chisholm Avenue in Halifax. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound at that location. He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he remained until he passed away

An autopsy was conducted by the Medical Examiners Service today and the cause of death has been ruled a homicide.

The victim had been identified as 31-year-old Anthony Charles Johnson of Halifax.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators are asking anyone who may have information in relation to Anthony’s homicide to call police at 902-490-5020. Help RCMP solve theft from construction site

February 11, 2020, Timberlea, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s help to solve a theft from a construction site in Timberlea.

Between February 6 and February 8, suspect(s) entered a house under construction on Rosewood Ave. and stole several tools including a tripod work light, 50 lbs of spikes and common nails, a 20 lbs propane tank with a Tiger torch, a 100-foot heavy duty extension cord, two step ladders and lumber.

Homeowner catches thief in his shed and chases him out

February 10, 2020, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia . . . At 1:23 a.m. pm February 8, Halifax District RCMP responded to a call of a break and enter in progress on Chaswood Dr. in Cole Harbour. The homeowner told police their shed door was open, and it shouldn’t be. When the homeowner went to check it out, they found a man inside, described as male, 6-feet tall, with a medium build, wearing a toque, a balaclava, and a large black puffy jacket. The homeowner yelled at the suspect, who fled the area on foot. When the homeowner examined the contents of the shed, several items were missing, including an expensive bicycle, several large tools, and some tool chests.

Police investigate Halifax robbery

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a robbery that occurred this morning in Halifax.

On February 11, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. a 24 year old female was walking in the area of the 2600 block of Northwood Terrace. A male suspect approached her and sprayed a sensory irritant in her face, as she fell to the ground the male tried to grab her bag. A witness heard her scream and came out of his residence to assist her. The suspect grabbed her cell phone and fled the area.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6’0”, pale gaunt face, thin build, and short dirty blond hair wearing dark clothes.

Four people charged in relation to robberies

Four people charged in relation to robberies

Police have charged four people in relation to a number of incidents in the Halifax region including two recent robberies.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 18, 2019 police responded to a break and enter in-progress at East Coast Buy and Sell located at 181 Herring Cove Road in Halifax. A man broke into the business and fled with a number of electronics.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on February 3, 2020 police received a report of a theft that had occurred earlier in the day at TJ’s Grocery located at 290 Main Avenue in Halifax. Two men entered the store and stole a quantity of cigarettes, and then fled the area in a vehicle.

At approximately 7:13 p.m. on February 3, 2020 police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the Needs Convenience Store, located at 5881 Duffus Street. Two men wearing masks, one armed with a firearm, entered the store demanding cigarettes and money. The suspects left in a vehicle with an amount of cigarettes and money, in an unknown direction of travel. No one was physically injured.

At approximately 7:16 p.m. on February 3, 2020 police responded to a robbery at another Needs Convenience Store location at Windsor Park Market, 3445 Windsor Street. Two men wearing masks, one armed with a firearm entered the store and demanded money. The suspects left empty handed and fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction of travel. No one was physically injured.

 

On February 8, 2020 Halifax District RCMP received a report of a theft that had occurred overnight from a residence in the 1000 block of Sackville Drive in Middle Sackville. A man stole a television from the residence and fled in a vehicle.

 

Through the investigation members of the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division determined that the incidents were related.

On February 8 at approximately 10:30 p.m. members of the Colchester District RCMP arrested four suspects in a vehicle in the Bible Hill area of Nova Scotia. The suspects were transported to Police Headquarters on Gottingen Street where they were held to face charges in Halifax Provincial Court today in relation to the incidents.

Danial Gregory Roach, 22, of Dartmouth, is facing the following charges:

  • break and enter
  • theft under $5,000 (x 2)
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x 2)
  • robbery with firearm (x 2)
  • careless use of a firearm
  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of a weapon
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • breach of probation order (x 2)
  • breach of recognizance
  • breach of prohibition order

Myles John Benn, 21, of Middle Sackville, is facing the following charges:

  • robbery with firearm (x 2)
  • theft under $5,000
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • careless use of a firearm
  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of a weapon
  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

Caitlyn Elizabeth Lethbridge, 25, of Dartmouth, and Brittany Catherine Roach, 24, of Halifax, are each facing two counts of robbery with firearm.

Missing Person: Dawn Doucette

Police continue to ask for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 16-year-old female youth from Berwick Nova Scotia.

Dawn Doucette was seen in the Lacewood Drive area of Halifax on January 27 2020.

Dawn is described as 5’7”, 125 lbs. with long dark hair that is usually in a ponytail.

There is no information to suggest that Dawn has met with foul play, however, her family and police are concerned for his well-being.

Police charge youth for child pornography-related offences

Police charge youth for child pornography-related offences

Police have charged a 17-year-old male youth from Halifax with child pornography-related offences.

Earlier today, investigators in the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division conducted a search of an address in Halifax after receiving information from the Ontario Provincial Police that a person from Halifax had been sharing sexually explicit images of children online. Investigators, with the assistance of members of West Division Patrol, seized a number of electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Investigators in the ICE and Vice Units arrested a male youth without incident at the scene.

A seventeen-year-old male youth has been charged with one count each of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography

He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Youth Court today.

Help RCMP solve robbery in Lower Sackville

February 7, 2020, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s help to solve a robbery that occurred on February 6 in Lower Sackville.

At approximately 10 p.m., Halifax District RCMP were dispatched to a robbery at a business in the 200 block of Sackville Dr. A suspect entered the business, produced a weapon and ordered the clerk to give him money. The suspect left the business with a quantity of cash and fled on foot in the direction of Skyridge Cres. Police searched the area for the suspect but he was not located. No one was injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect is described as a man of average height and build. He was wearing black pants, a black hoodie, sunglasses and a bandana partially covering his face.

The investigation is ongoing and led by RCMP/HRP Integrated General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division.

RCMP investigates shooting

February 5, 2020, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia…The RCMP is investigating a shooting that left a 17-year-old female with serious but non-life-threatening injuries on February 4.

At approximately 10:10 p.m., Yarmouth RCMP responded to a call about a possible gunshot victim. The victim was located inside a taxi on Main St. when the driver flagged down police out of concern for their passenger.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the member observed serious but non-life-threatening injuries to the passenger and she was transported to hospital by EHS.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim had been socializing with several people at a home on Cliff St. where she was shot. It is believed that the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Yarmouth Town RCMP with assistance from Yarmouth Town GIS, Yarmouth/Claire Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Yarmouth County Detachment. Police Dog Services also assisted with the investigation.

Police Investigate a business break and enter

February 2, 2020 at about 9:54 PM, Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a Break and Enter in progress at 6 Long Lake Drive, Halifax. A witness had contacted police after seeing suspicious persons inside a fenced compound of a closed business. A 28 year old male was arrested at the scene. A 26 year old male was tracked by K9 and arrested in a wooded area off the Prospect Bay Road. Both adult males have been charged with Break and Enter and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on a future date.
