Shots Fires, Millbrook, NS

On October 25, 2017, at Millbrook, Nova Scotia Shortly after 1 a.m.  Millbrook RCMP, Colchester District RCMP and Truro Police Services, responded to a complaint of gunshots fired at a residence on Coach Rd. in Millbrook.

Inside the home at the time were four adults and an infant. No one was injured. The front door of the home sustained damage.

RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Section assisted with the investigation.

Theft of Building Panels

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help in solving a case of theft from a property in Mushaboom, NS.

Sometime between August 1st and 26th, 2017 a theft of 43 green metal building panels ( 14’x3.5′) were stolen from a property in Mushaboom, NS. The panels are 1/2 inch thick and have yellow foam insulation inside.

Suspects are believed have used a white Ford truck and a dark Ford truck to remove panels.

Theft of Trailer Moser River, NS

Sometime between October n1st and 20th of October 2017, a 2009 17 foot Jayco Jay  Feather hybrid trailer, white on colour was stolen from a cottage property in Moser River NS.

Gas & Dash Halifax

Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a woman responsible for a string of gas and dashes throughout the municipality since early August.

  • At 7:54 a.m. on August 8 at the Wilson’s Gas Bar located at 30 Farnham Gate Road, Halifax.
  • At 8 a.m. on September 12 at the Petro-Canada located at 7015 Bayers Road, Halifax.
  • At 10:47 a.m. on September 25 at the Atlantic Superstore Gas Bar located at 3627 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax.
  • At 8:51 a.m. on September 28 at the Ultramar located at 1830 St. Margarets Bay Road, Timberlea.
  • At 8:40 a.m. on October 18 at the Esso located at 3600 Dutch Village Road, Halifax.

Police are releasing photos of the woman and her vehicle. She’s described as a white woman, 20-30’s, with dark, sometimes reddish-coloured hair usually worn up. In each incident, she was driving a blue Ford Escape, with a stolen license plate number FDA 175.

Theft Canadian Tire Lower Sackville

Halifax District RCMP is asking the public for help identifying two suspects involved in a mid-day theft of close to $2000 in merchandise from an open Canadian Tire store in Lower Sackville.

At around noon on October 22, two male suspects drove a black Dodge Caravan to the side of the Canadian Tire building at 796 Sackville Dr. A few minutes later the van pulls away and parks in the front parking lot. It appears the suspects cut the fence while parked at the side of the building.

They proceeded in to the business where they filled multiple carts with merchandise including two Husqvarna chainsaws, a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, a Minn Kota Trolling Motor (Endura C2 40, 36 inch) and a Shakespeare Glider Trolling Motor (36 inch, 55 lbs.). The suspects wheeled the carts outside to the garden centre, departed the business then proceeded to drive the van around to pick up the items through the opening in the fence and fled the scene.

Suspect 1 is described as a clean-shaven white man between 40 and 50 years old. He was wearing a grey hoodie inscribed with the word “CAT”, black track pants, white sneakers, a black ball-cap with sunglasses on the brim.

Suspect 2 is described as a clean-shaven white man between 40 and 50 years old. He was wearing a green jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers and a black hat.

Theft of Tommy-Gun

Police request public’s assistance locating a collector Tommy-Gun

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a collector Thompson machine gun and magazine stolen from a Legion in Dartmouth last week.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on October 21, police responded to a report that a collector Thompson machine gun and magazine had been stolen from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 31 located at 54 King Street sometime between October 18 at 7 p.m. and October 21 at 7 p.m. The gun was displayed in glass case and was screwed to a brick wall in the front lobby of the Legion. The approximately 90-year-old gun and magazine have been rendered inoperable and were only for display purposes.

HRM Robberies October 19, 2017

At 10:22 p.m. on October 19, police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at Showtime Video & Variety located at 32 Albro Lake Road in Dartmouth. A lone male had entered the store with a firearm and demanded the clerk give him cash from the till. The clerk yelled and the suspect fled the store while a customer chased him. The suspect was last observed running westbound from the Wyse Road to Albro Lake Road area. There were no physical injuries.

At 10:52 p.m., police responded to a report of another robbery in progress at Bridgeview Grocery located at 188 Bedford Highway in Halifax. A lone male entered a store with a firearm, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk said no and the male fled the area on foot. There were no physical injuries.

At 11:33 p.m., police responded to a report of a hold-up alarm at the One Stop Shop located at 269 Windmill Road. Officers determined a male in a mask had been outside the store and attempted to gain entry by pulling on a door that had been locked by the clerk. The male was unsuccessful and fled the area. There were no physical injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’ with a thin build. At the time of the incidents he was wearing all black clothing and a metallic blue mask.

Reckless use of Drone

October 12, 2017, Goffs, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP would like to speak with the operator of a drone that was in the vicinity of the Halifax Stanfield International Airport property.

Just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP responded to a complaint that a pilot had observed a drone outside of the airport property while taking off from the airport’s secondary runway. Upon arrival, RCMP observed the drone flying in the in the vicinity of the airport. Extensive patrols were made, however, the drone and the operator were not located.

RCMP cannot stress enough the dangers involved with such actions. “Not only are you potentially jeopardizing the safety of all passengers and crew on flights, you are breaking the law,” says S/Sgt. Anthony Pompeo, Watch Commander – Halifax District RCMP.

Transport Canada’s rules for recreational drone users stipulate the following:

  • may fly below 90 m above the ground
  • at least 30 m away from vehicles, vessels, and the public (if your drone weighs more than 250 g up to 1 kg)
  • at least 75 m away from vehicles, vessels, and the public (if your drone weighs more than 1 kg up to 35 kg)
  • at least 5.5 km away from aerodromes (any airport, seaplane base, or areas where aircraft take-off and land)
  • at least 1.8 km away from heliports or aerodromes used by helicopters only
  • outside of controlled or restricted airspace
  • at least 9 km away from a natural hazard or disaster area
  • away from areas where operation could interfere with police or first responders
  • during the day and not in clouds
  • within your sight at all times
  • within 500 m of yourself or closer
  • only if clearly marked with your name, address, and telephone number

Break Enter & Theft Pictou County

Public assistance requested: cigarettes stolen from service station

October 16, 2017, Lyons Brook, Pictou County, Nova Scotia . . . On October 16, Pictou District RCMP responded to a break and enter into a service station. Police arrived on scene and found that culprits had entered the business by forcing the front door open. Once inside, culprits stole a large quantity of cigarettes.

Cold Case ( Homicide )

Police continue to investigate homicide of Laura Lee Cross

October 13, 2017, Wyses Corner, Nova Scotia … The Cold Case Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the homicide of Laura Lee Cross 15 years later.

On October 14, 2002, at approximately 5:30 p.m., two hunters discovered human skeletal remains off a logging road on Old Guysborough Rd. near Dollar Lake Provincial Park. The skeletal remains were later identified as those of 33-year-old Laura Lee Cross. The investigation revealed that Ms. Cross was last seen on July 12, 2001, and reported missing in August 2001. Ms. Cross had been living at 18 Middle St. in Dartmouth at the time of her disappearance.

This homicide has been added to the Nova Scotia Reward for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which offers up to $150,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in certain cases. For more information on the rewards program, visit: https://novascotia.ca/just/Public_Safety/Rewards/.
