Halifax Regional Police is investigating a robbery that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

On September 22 at approximately 5:45 p.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Sobeys located at 2651 Windsor Street. A man in a checkout lane stated he had a firearm, threatened the employee, and demanded money from the till. No firearm was seen, and the man fled the store when confronted by security.

The suspect then entered the Smoke Shop attached to Sobeys, once again threatening that he had a firearm and demanding the cashier give him money. The suspect fled the area on a bicycle with a quantity of money. No firearm was seen during the second incident, and neither of the employees were physically injured. 

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40-years-old, with a slim build and brown hair. He was wearing a grey hooded shirt, blue jeans, a ball hat, and a medical face mask at the time of the incident.

September 10, 2024, Belliveau’s Cove… Meteghan RCMP is investigating a suspicious structure fire that occurred on the public grounds in Belliveau’s Cove.

On September 6 at approximately 3:55 a.m., Meteghan RCMP and fire services responded to a report of a fire at a building in the 3000-block of Hwy. 1. A significant part of the building had been destroyed, and fire services were able to extinguish the rest of the fire. There was no one inside the building at the time.

This fire is the second this summer to a structure on the public grounds in Belliveau’s Cove, with a previous incident from August 14 also still under investigation. Officers are investigating possible connections between these two fires. There is no indication at this time suggesting that the fire is related to the ongoing organized crime group or with the dispute related to fishing/fisheries.

The initial investigation indicates the fire is suspicious in nature and may have started at approximately 3:30 a.m. at the back of the building. Investigating officers from Meteghan RCMP detachment will be assisted by the Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit and the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal.

September 5, 2024, Middleton, Nova Scotia… Annapolis District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two people related to suspicious circumstances at a Middleton business.

On the evening of August 10, two people, including a youth, attended a business on Main St. Witnesses reported that their actions and comments while in and around the business aroused suspicion. After they left, the two people spent some time in other public areas around Middleton and appeared to leave the town at approximately 9:15 p.m.

RCMP officers are concerned for the safety of the youth and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the pair.

The man is described as in his 40s and approximately 5-foot-9, with dyed black hair and trimmed facial hair. He had tattoos on his neck and arms and was wearing a tight white t-shirt and checkered shorts. He was accompanied by a dog that appeared to be a Lab/Pincher mix; the dog was approximately 140lb and wearing a blue vest.

The girl is described as approximately 14 years old. She is about 5-foot-5 with a petite build and brown hair, and was wearing glasses, navy blue shorts and a brown t-shirt.

The man was driving a black Dodge Ram with large tires and Ontario plates, possibly with a cross or similar decal on the back window.

On August 29, 2024, the Truro Police Service responded to a theft of jewelry complaint at Charm Jewelers Truro Mall.

The male suspect entered the store and asked to try on a bracelet and a chain and fled the store with both items.

The person of interest is pictured below and is described as white male, thin, grey shaved head, beige pants, black T-shirt with white graphic on front and red sneakers.

On August 4th 2024, Shelburne County RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in progress. A vehicle was located nearby and a number of stolen property items were recovered including: 

• Tactacam Reveal X Pro Trail Cam. 

• Spypoint Trail Cam Solar Panel. 

• Dewalt Impact Drill – Initials KM in several locations on the drill. 

• Quantity of Canadian Silver Dollars, Half Dollars, along with large quantity of miscellaneous Canadian coins. 

Attached on page 2 are photos believed to belong to the owners of the recovered trail cam. They may also be the owners of the remainder of the recovered items.

September 1, 2024, Virginia East, Nova Scotia…The RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit, with assistance from the Annapolis District RCMP, is investigating the homicide of a 66-year-old Virginia East man.

On August 31, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Annapolis District RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence on Virginia Rd. in Virginia East. RCMP officers located a 66-year-old man deceased and the death has been ruled a homicide.

The investigation is in the initial stages and no further information will be released at this time.

The investigation is being supported by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Police Dog Services and Kings District RCMP.
