Cigarettes, Loto tickets, and cash taken during break-in

October 30, 2018, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance after a break and enter took place at a business on Sackville Dr. in Lower Sackville. Sometime between 2 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on October 28, those responsible entered the business and stole a large quantity of cigarettes, loto tickets and cash.

The investigation is continuing and is being led by the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

RCMP investigating thefts from motor vehicles in Lunenburg County

October 27, 2018, Cookville, Nova Scotia…Lunenburg District RCMP are investigating a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles that occurred in the late evening and early morning hours in Lunenburg County. Recently, 12 vehicles were targeted in the Lower Branch Rd. area and a total of 43 vehicles were broken into in the Lunenburg County area since June. Numerous valuables and small items were stolen as a result.

“We want to remind people to not leave valuables in their vehicles and to lock their doors, regardless of how safe they believe their neighbourhood is,” says Sgt. Mark MacPherson with Lunenburg District RCMP. “Living in rural areas won’t deter thieves from targeting your vehicles and property.”

Police are also reminding property owners to lock their homes, garages and outbuildings and to keep items such as ATVs and power tools kept out of sight, especially overnight. Property owners can take extra steps to deter thieves such as installing outdoor lights, motion sensors or trail cameras.

RCMP continue to follow leads in a number of these thefts but are asking the public to help by being safety conscious and to report anything suspicious. Police Investigate Robbery at Cora’s on Dresden Row in Halifax

At approx. 3:11 pm Halifax Regional Police responded to a Robbery at Cora’s Restaurant, 1535 Dresden Row, Halifax. A dark skinned male, stocky build, wearing a black sweater, and a camouflage hat with a brim, entered Cora’s Restaurant and demanded cash from the register. No weapon was seen. Suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Suspect was last seen running North on Dresden Row towards Sackville St.

Police warn Cole Harbour residents of night time break-ins

October 28, 2018, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia – Halifax District RCMP is warning residents of the Colby Village area of Cole Harbour of three recent break-ins. Three homes were entered in Colby Village during the past two nights. This occurred while the residents of the homes were at home and were asleep at the time.

The suspect(s) took keys, identification, shoes, and food from the homes. No one was hurt and the RCMP is asking residents to take precautions to protect themselves. Police are reminding residents to lock their homes at night and report any suspicious activity immediately to Halifax District RCMP by calling 902-490-5020 or 911 in an emergency.

Some of the victims of these incidents contacted police several hours after they discovered them, which significantly decreases the likelihood of police being able to identify the suspect(s).

Steps to increase your home’s safety:

  • Report suspicious activity immediately to police. Consider neighborhood watch programs in your community
  • Invest in alarm systems and video security systems
  • Secure all doors and windows and ensure garage doors are kept closed and locked
  • Install timers on interior lights when you are not at home
  • Have someone look after your home when you are planning to be away for an extended absence
  • Do not place your car keys close to the door, and store them in an inconspicuous location
  • Keep remote garage door openers out of sight or hidden in your vehicle
  • Record serial numbers of valuable items

Police seize firearms, drugs and police uniform in Yarmouth- looking for woman

Firearms, drugs, and RCMP uniform seized during search warrant

 

October 26, 2018, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia . . . Following an investigation that began on October 14, Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) has conducted an investigation that has resulted in the search of a home on October 25. Members of Yarmouth Town and Rural Detachments assisted the SCEU unit in this investigation.

 

Police learned that firearms offences had occurred at the residence earlier this week. One of the residents of the home was arrested on October 22 and was found to be in possession of cocaine. On October 25, a search warrant was obtained for the home, which is on Lewis Lane. During the search, police seized a loaded .22 calibre rifle, ammunition, a quantity of cocaine and packaging material. Police also found RCMP uniform pants and a shirt inside the home.

 

Forty-one-year-old Dean Anthony Thibeau of Yarmouth was arrested in Yarmouth on October 25. He was held in custody overnight and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking;
  • Careless use of a firearm;
  • Unsafe storage of firearms;
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized.

Thibeau appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court today and was released. Police are actively trying to locate a 43-year-old Yarmouth woman in connection with these incidents, and she will be facing the same charges.

On October 25 at 2:31pm a lone man entered the Scotiabank at 6005 Coburg Rd, Halifax.  Once inside the man provided the teller with a note advising that he was in possession of a firearm and demanded cash.  This man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He is described as a male with darker skin, 5”9” in height and heavy build.  He was wearing a dark blue hoodie, green cargo pant and was carrying a light blue reusable shopping bag.  No one was injured during robbery and members of patrol, Forensic Identification Section  and the Integrated General Investigation Section continue to investigate the matter

Police search for Point Pleasant Park assault suspect

Halifax Regional Police are searching for a man who was involved in an assault that occurred on Sunday in Point Pleasant Park.

At approximately 3:30 to 4 p.m. on October 21, police responded to a report of an assault in progress at Point Pleasant Park, near Fort Road and Ogilvie Road. A man was walking three dogs, two Rottweilers and one Border Collie, when an altercation occurred between him and a woman who was at the park with her dog. He threatened to hurt both the woman and her dog. The suspect proceeded to punch a man, who was with the woman, in the face.

The suspect fled to the lower parking lot and sped away in a newer model SUV, maroon or burgundy in colour. The vehicle had a temporary permit in the front windshield and no license plate. The vehicle likely also has damage to the rear from striking a beige Mazda truck in the parking lot.

The suspect is described as a black man with a light complexion, in his mid-30s to early-40s, 5’8” to 5’11” tall and approximately 190lbs. He had scruffy facial hair and was wearing a wide brimmed sun hat, sunglasses, a gray flannel jacket, dark plants and bright white running shoes.

RCMP investigating suspicious death in Waycobah

October 24, 2018, Waycobah First Nation, Nova Scotia . . . Shortly before 11 a.m. today, the RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious death at a home on Hwy. 105 in Waycobah First Nation. The victim is a 22-year-old woman from Waycobah.

Police are presently on-scene. The investigation is being led by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit. The investigation is in its early stages, and more information will be shared when it becomes available.

Black Ford F-150 Stolen From Amherst Head, Cumberland County

The afternoon of October 24th, a black the Ford F150 pictured below (NS Plate: FSP 311) was stolen from a locked garage in Amherst Head.

The truck is all black with black detailing and a now purple bug guard on the front. The tailgate is a matte black and the Ford symbol on the tailgate is not visible due to the matte black finish.
