Firearms, drugs, and RCMP uniform seized during search warrant
October 26, 2018, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia . . . Following an investigation that began on October 14, Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) has conducted an investigation that has resulted in the search of a home on October 25. Members of Yarmouth Town and Rural Detachments assisted the SCEU unit in this investigation.
Police learned that firearms offences had occurred at the residence earlier this week. One of the residents of the home was arrested on October 22 and was found to be in possession of cocaine. On October 25, a search warrant was obtained for the home, which is on Lewis Lane. During the search, police seized a loaded .22 calibre rifle, ammunition, a quantity of cocaine and packaging material. Police also found RCMP uniform pants and a shirt inside the home.
Forty-one-year-old Dean Anthony Thibeau of Yarmouth was arrested in Yarmouth on October 25. He was held in custody overnight and has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking;
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Unsafe storage of firearms;
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized.
Thibeau appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court today and was released. Police are actively trying to locate a 43-year-old Yarmouth woman in connection with these incidents, and she will be facing the same charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
