Thieves target unoccupied cottages

February 7, 2018, Marienette, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is investigating two break and enters that took place at seasonal cottages on Highway 224 in Marienette. Sometime between February 5 and 6, thieves gained access to the cottages and sheds on the properties. At this time, it is unknown what was taken during the break-ins.

Sometime between 2018-01-14 and 2018-02-16 a cottage was broken into on Hunterwood Drive at Third Lake NS. Taken were two long guns and a generator.

Break Enter & Property Damage

Crime Stoppers and Sheet Harbour RCMP are asking for the public’s help in solving a break and enter and property damage.

Sometime between the hours of 1:15 pm and 9:15 pm a residence was broken into on Highway 7 in East Ship Harbour. Entry was gained by forcing the back door, the person or persons then proceeded to smash out several windows.

Attempted Robbery Greenwood NS

On February 1, 2018 at 9:16 p.m. a 17-year-old male was using the ATM at the Scotiabank on Central Ave in Greenwood, when he was approached by a man who stated he had a weapon and demanded the victim withdraw all of the money from his account. When the victim refused, the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, approximately 6-foot-3, 180 lbs, wearing a blue quilted jacket with the hood up, and a camouflaged mask across his mouth. No weapon was seen by the victim nor did the suspect get any money.

RCMP Police Dog Services and Kings District RCMP searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Kings District RCMP General Investigative Section. Police Continue to Investigate the Murder of Derek Alan Lowe

This coming Sunday is the 30th anniversary of the murder of Derek Alan Lowe and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

On January 28, 1988, at 7:20 a.m., police responded to a report that a citizen walking on a pathway at Maybank Sport Field in Dartmouth had found an unresponsive man. Officers determined that the man was deceased and had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Derek Alan Lowe. The investigation revealed that Derek was last seen the evening of January 27, 1988 at a bar in the north end of Dartmouth.

Investigators believe that there are people who know what happened to Derek and hope that the passage of time will encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know.

Home invasion investigated by police

Just before five o’clock this morning, January 24, 2018, Halifax District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a home invasion at a residence on Astral Dr. in Cole Harbour.

Multiple adults were in the residence when four males entered the home with their faces covered, produced firearms and proceeded to rob them. The victims were tied up. They managed to escape after the four suspects had departed the home. One of the victims, a male, suffered minor injuries and was treated at hospital after being assaulted during the incident. The suspects took cell phones and jewelry from the home.

RCMP and Halifax Regional Police K-9 attended the scene and were unable to locate the suspects. RCMP Forensic Identification Section is assisting with the investigation.

Break & Enter Halifax

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a break and enter that occurred in December in Halifax.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on December 2, 2017, a man entered the Pint Public House located at 1575 Argyle Street and took an ATM located at the back of the back of the restaurant. The ATM contained a sum of money. On December 7, the damaged ATM was located by patrol members in the 1500 block of Granville Street, however, the money wasn’t recovered.

Police are releasing pictures of a person of interest and are asking for and asking for the public’s help to identify him. He is described as a white man, in his 40’s, medium build, dark hair with a dark moustache. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a light-coloured jacket and hoodie, jeans with a rip in the right knee and dark shoes/boots with light laces.

Police seek assistance identifying a Dartmouth theft suspect

On December 31, 2017 at 1 p.m. a man entered Shoppers Drug Mart at 118 Wyse Road in Dartmouth and asked to see a tablet and a laptop. A staff member removed the items from behind the glass enclosure and set them on the counter. The man fled the store with the items.

On January 1, 2018 at 12 p.m. the same man entered the same store walked behind the counter and removed a package containing Beats headphones from a shelf and walked out of the store with the item.

Both thefts were captured on the store surveillance system. A still photo of the suspect is attached. Police are requesting the public’s assistance to identify the man.

Robbery Lower Sackville NS. January 22, 2018

Just after 7 a.m. this morning, Halifax District RCMP responded to a robbery at a business on Sackville Dr. in Lower Sackville. A lone suspect entered the business demanding money while stating they had a weapon. The suspect is described as a male, 5”6 to 5”10, wearing a black ski mask, black gloves, a dirty black jacket and dark blue jeans, and carrying a blue shopping bag. The suspect left with an undetermined amount of cash and was last seen heading east on Sackville Dr.

RCMP responded immediately and conducted extensive patrols of the area. A K-9 unit from Halifax Regional Police also searched the area, but the suspect was not located. The investigation is ongoing and is now being led by the Integrated General Investigation Section.

Death ruled a homicide

At approximately 4:25 p.m. on January 19, 2018 Halifax Regional Police responded to an apartment in the 0-100 block of Pinecrest Drive to report of a 42 year old man in medical distress. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on today’s autopsy, the Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide and identified the victim as 42-year-old Derek Miles of Dartmouth. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The investigation, led by the Homicide Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and including Forensic Identification officers, is ongoing and we remain on scene. At this time, we anticipate being on scene into the night.
