Police continue historical sexual assault investigation

Police are continuing the investigation into a report of a historical sexual assault in Halifax in 2003 and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

On July 21, 2022, police received a report in relation to a sexual assault that is alleged to have occurred during the time the 2003 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Hockey Tournament was taking place in Halifax. 

Investigators from the Sexual Assault Investigative Team of the Special Victims Section are leading the investigation. Historical sexual assault investigations are complex, and investigators are pursuing numerous avenues and taking the necessary time to conduct a thorough investigation.

We thank everyone who has come forward to assist the investigation. We ask anyone with information who has not yet shared what they know with investigators to contact police by calling 902-490-5020.

It is important to remember that there is no statute of limitation on sexual assaults, and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault to contact police. Police request public’s assistance identifying robbery suspects

Police are requesting the public’s assistance identifying the suspects from a robbery that occurred in Halifax earlier this fall. 

On September 21 police received a report of a robbery that occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Street in Halifax. Two female youths from a group of people assaulted a woman who was not known to them and took her property. The group then fled the area on foot.

The first suspect is described as a white female youth with dark pink hair and wearing a navy long-sleeve sweater, green leggings, white shoes and had a black purse.

The second suspect is described as a white female youth with black hair in a bun and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, grey and black camouflage pants and had a black backpack.

RCMP seeking public assistance to identify three men involved in a home invasion

November 16, 2022, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia… The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a home invasion that occurred in Cole Harbour.

On November 15, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Bissett Rd. in Cole Harbour. RCMP officers learned that a youth, who was the only occupant of the home, was abruptly disturbed by three black men, who had suddenly entered the home.

One of the men, who brandished a handgun, demanded if anyone black lived in the home. When the youth said no, the men immediately left the home and fled in a four door sedan, that was parked nearby. The youth was not harmed.

All of the men are described as being no older than 30 years old. Two of them were wearing black ski masks and the third had long hair.

Investigators do not believe this act to be random.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services.

Meteghan RCMP investigating Arson in Saulnierville

November 16, 2022, Saulnierville, Nova Scotia…Meteghan RCMP is investigating an arson after a structure fire occurred on Saulnierville Rd. in Saulnierville.

On November 15, 2022, at approximately 5:05 a.m., Meteghan RCMP and fire, responded to a report of a structure fire on Saulnierville Rd. in Saulnierville. RCMP officers learned that the fire had occurred in a storage garage located towards the rear of a home on the property. The fire was extinguished and the garage was heavily damaged, including the contents. RCMP officers have since determined that the fire was a result of arson. The scene was held throughout the day until the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office could attend to assist with the investigation. The scene has since been released.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office.

RCMP investigates break and enter involving theft of a firearm

November 16, 2022, Belliveaus Cove, Nova Scotia… Meteghan RCMP is investigating a break and enter involving a theft of a firearm in Belliveaus Cove.

On November 12, at approximately 11 a.m., Meteghan RCMP responded to a report of a break-in to a residential garage on Hwy. 1 in Belliveaus Cove. RCMP officers learned that a Remington hunting rifle with a scope, hunting gear and lobster, valued at $3,000, were stolen sometime overnight.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police continue to investigate property damage at the Public Gardens

Police are continuing to investigate property damage at the Halifax Public Gardens that occurred earlier this year.

On July 26, police responded to a report of damage to multiple trees within the gardens that occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on July 25 and 7 a.m. on July 26. Approximately 30 trees, many of which range from 50 to 200 years old, were damaged.

The incident remains under investigation by members of the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators have been working closely with stakeholders and thank citizens who have come forward with information to assist the investigation.

Until the end of the year, the Friends of the Public Gardens is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Halifax District RCMP seeking public assistance with theft investigation

November 14, 2022, Bedford, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a theft of jewelry and cash that occurred at a home in Bedford.

On November 12, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a break-and-enter at a house on Bentridge Way. RCMP officers learned that the person(s) responsible for the break-in gained access to the home through the rear entrance sometime that afternoon, and stole cash and jewelry valued at over $175,000.

Some of the items taken include a Tiffany brand engagement ring, two Rolex watches, earrings and a necklace.

The investigation is ongoing and being assisted by the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

Police investigate suspicious circumstances

Police are investigating a number of incidents of suspicious circumstances that occurred over the weekend in Halifax.

Investigators in the Special Victims Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating a number of incidents where a man has offered and/or given drives to women who are not known to him. The incidents occurred during the late-night hours in the downtown area of Halifax.

The man is described as in his 40s with a dark complexion and a scruffy dark beard. The vehicle is described as a white older model four-door hatchback.

Halifax District RCMP investigating armed robbery

November 6, 2022, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Lower Sackville gas station.

On November 5, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a panic alarm from the Shell gas station located at 381 Sackville Drive. Upon arrival at the scene, they learned an armed robbery had just occurred.

A slim male wearing blue jeans, a black hooded jacket and a mask with whiskers printed on it, had entered the gas station. After displaying a firearm, he was given a quantity of cigarettes before he fled on foot.

No one was injured during the incident.

RCMP officers set up containment of the area and Police Dog Services attended the scene. However, the suspect wasn’t found.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police on scene of stabbing in Dartmouth

At approximately 3 p.m. officers responded to a report of a disturbance where a person had been stabbed in the area of the Halifax Transit Bridge Terminal on Nantucket Avenue. Officers located a male youth in the area with what are believed to be non-life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported to hospital for treatment.

The investigation is in the early stages and further information will be provided when it becomes available.
