Police continue to investigate the murder of Michael Peverill

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the murder of Michael Joseph Peverill and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On January 19, 1999, at approximately 3:20 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured man at 88 Queen Street in Dartmouth. Responding officers found Michael had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Michael was last seen entering his apartment at 2 p.m. that day and had moved into this apartment complex one week before his death, however, he knew and frequently visited the previous tenant at this location.

Investigators believe there are people who have information in relation to Michael’s death, and hope that the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. Our investigators believe that even the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Michael’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Police investigate robbery

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a robbery that occurred in Dartmouth last night.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 80 Tacoma Drive. A man entered the store and broke into a locked cabinet containing fragrance products. The man assaulted an employee when they approached him, and then he fled the area on foot with the merchandise. The employee was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a white man wearing a balaclava, black sneakers, grey winter jacket, and dark blue jeans carrying a camouflage backpack.

Help Police Solve MacKay Section truck theft

Sometime between 10:30 PM on January 17, 2024, and 6:16 AM on January 18, 2024, a black 2019 Chev Silverado Z71, NSLP FJG170, was stolen from Highway 14 in Mackay Section Hants County.

Police investigate robbery

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a robbery that occurred in Halifax late last night.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing that had occurred in the area of South Park and Clyde streets. A man had attempted to steal a vehicle that was parked near that location. The man cut the vehicle owner with a knife when he confronted him. The suspect then fled the area on foot. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s to 30s, approximately 5’7” tall, with a stocky build, dark hair, wearing jeans, a light blue-green hooded sweatshirt, a black mask and black backpack.

Meteghan RCMP investigating suspicious fire

January 14, 2024, St. Bernard, Nova Scotia… This morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Meteghan RCMP and fire services responded to an active structure fire at a property near the 3600 block of Route 1 in St. Bernard. 

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found an unoccupied residence fully engulfed in flames.

At this time, from the information and evidence gathered at the scene, RCMP officers believe the fire is suspicious in nature and have opened an arson investigation.

The investigation, led by the Meteghan RCMP with assistance from the Yarmouth/Clare Street Crime Enforcement Unit, is ongoing.

Injured Person

Halifax Regional Police are investigating an incident that occurred this morning in Halifax.

At approximately 8:03 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured person in the 2400 block of Cragg Avenue. Officers located a 51-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. The man was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.  

Police remain on scene while the area is being processed by the Forensic Identification section  This matter is in the early stages of the investigation and limited details are available at this time.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’8” tall, wearing a green jacket, a brown scarf, a facemask and carrying a green shopping bag.

West Hants RCMP Detachment investigating a series of mischief to vehicles

January 10, 2024, Windsor, Nova Scotia… West Hants RCMP Detachment is investigating a series of mischief to vehicles that happened downtown Windsor where multiple vehicles had their tires slashed.

On January 8, 2024, around 11:33 a.m. West Hants RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a mischief on Turner Ln. in Windsor. Upon arrival on scene, the investigation lead officers to discover that at least six vehicles had their tires slashed.

RCMP officers believe that the damages were caused between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on January 8, 2024.

RCMP investigating break-and-enters in Digby and Yarmouth counties

January 9, 2023, Meteghan, Nova Scotia… Meteghan RCMP is investigating three break-and-enters in Digby and Yarmouth counties.

On December 11, at approximately 4 a.m., RCMP officers responded to a break-and-enter at a gas station in Meteghan. A man broke a glass door and stole several packs of cigarettes before leaving the scene on a red all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

On December 12, at approximately 2 a.m., Yarmouth Rural RCMP were dispatched to a break-and-enter at a grocery store in Dayton. A man broke a window and stole a quantity of cigarettes. He left the scene on a red ATV.

On January 7, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Meteghan RCMP responded to a break-and-enter at a hardware shop in Meteghan. A male broke the back door and stole a generator and boxes of tools. He was wearing a black mask and gloves and was riding a yellow ATV. 

The investigations into these break-and-enters are ongoing.

Police investigate assault

Halifax Regional Police are investigating an assault that occurred yesterday in Halifax.

Officers received a report of an assault that had occurred in a wooded area near the 200 block of Thomas Raddall Drive. Between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., a youth was assaulted by a group of youths. A separate group of youths later discovered the victim and brought them to a nearby school. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.
