Police continue to investigate the homicide of Cortrell James Sinclair Thomas

Today marks the first anniversary of the homicide of Cortrell James Sinclair Thomas.

On Monday, March 31, 2025 at approximately 9:00 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots on Ancona Place in Dartmouth. Officers arrived on scene and located a man who had been shot outside of a residence. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy on the victim and confirmed the manner of death to be a homicide.

The Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

Investigators do not believe that this was a random incident and believe there are people who have information that could help solve Cortrell’s homicide. Anyone with information is asked to come forward; even the smallest piece of information could be the key to progressing the investigation into Cortell’s homicide. Police continue to investigate the homicide of Ann Marie Masson

Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the homicide of Ann Marie Masson.

On March 28, 1986, at approximately 1:55 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured person in a residence in the 2400 block of Robie Street in Halifax. Police found Ann inside the residence deceased as a result of being stabbed.

The investigation revealed that Ann left her residence on Lemon Walk in Halifax, at 3 p.m. to go to her friends’ house on Robie Street where she was later found deceased.

The Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

Investigators believe there are people who have information about Ann’s homicide. Investigators hope that the passage of time will encourage someone to come forward with what they know; it is never too late and what might seem like an insignificant detail may help progress the investigation. Arson Sydney Mines Cape Breton

On March 12th, 2026, owners of the residence attended home at 29 Howell Street, Sydney Mines, CBRM to locate smoke filtering in their residence.  Fire and police attended the scene and noted the Office of the Fire Marshall should be contacted over the fire. The fire was investigated by police the Office of the Fire Marshall and later deemed an Arson

Police continue to investigate the homicide of Keezondre Kentrez Rayshawn Smith

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the homicide of Keezondre Kentrez Rayshawn Smith.

On March 26, 2022, at approximately 3:50 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of Hollis Street. Officers located 20-year-old Keezondre Smith who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.

Man found with gunshot wound in Dartmouth

Police are investigating after a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Dartmouth this morning.

At approximately 11:06 a.m., police received a report of an injured man located near Wright Avenue and Garland Avenue.  When police arrived, they located a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police do not believe the man was shot at the location he was found and do not believe the incident was random. The investigation is ongoing.

Police investigate gunfire in Dartmouth

Police are investigating two recent incidents of gunfire in Dartmouth.

On February 3 at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of suspected gunfire in the area of Lahey Road and Clarence Street in Dartmouth. On scene, police located a vehicle and residence that had been struck. There were no reported physical injuries.

On March 1 at approximately 3:35 a.m., police received reports of suspected gunfire in the area of Lahey Road and Clarence Street in Dartmouth. On scene, police located a vehicle that had been struck. There were no reports of physical injuries.

The investigation into both incidents is ongoing, including whether the incidents are related.

On February 20, 2021, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to reports of a single vehicle crash into a utility pole at the intersection of Mount Edward Road and Cranberry Crescent in Dartmouth. The driver, Joseph Beals, had suffered gun shot wounds. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
