RCMP investigating report of indecent act

August 15, 2022, Valley, Nova Scotia… Colchester County District RCMP is investigating a report of an indecent act that occurred near Salmon River Rd. in Valley.

Today, at approximately noon, Colchester County District RCMP responded to a report of a man exposing himself near Salmon River Rd. in Valley. RCMP officers learned that a man approached two children on a trail behind an elementary school on Salmon River Rd. and exposed himself. The children returned to their parents nearby and reported the incident to them. 

The man is described as being older, white, clean shaven with grey hair and a thin build. He was wearing a blue shirt and grey shorts.

RCMP officers and an RCMP police dog searched the area but didn’t locate the man.

Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit charge two men with sex and labour trafficking offences

August 5, 2022, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia…The Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit has charged two men with Human Trafficking offences as part of Operation Homeward.

On June 9, 2022, the Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit received information via their Tip Line, that a woman was being trafficking by a Yarmouth man. With this information, an investigation was started and named Operation Homeward.

During the course of the operation, investigators determined that the man was involved with trafficking numerous victims, for both sex and labour. Investigators also gathered information and evidence that a second Yarmouth man was also involved. Support is being provided to the victims and their families.

The first man has been charged with thirty-three offences including:

  • Human Trafficking (5 counts);
  • Receiving a Financial Benefit from Human Trafficking (5 counts);
  • Procuring (3 counts);
  • Material Benefits from Sexual Services (3 counts);
  • Trafficking Cocaine (3 counts);
  • Trafficking Hydromorphone (2 counts);
  • Sexual Assault (2 counts);
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm;
  • Assault (3 counts);
  • Uttering Threats (2 counts);
  • Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration;
  • Advertising Sexual Services;
  • Failure to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order (2 counts)

The man, who was already in custody on unrelated charges, appeared in Shelburne Provincial Court on August 4 where he was remanded into custody. He will next appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on September 13, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

The second man was arrested on August 3 and has been charged with six offences including:

  • Human Trafficking;
  • Sexual Assault;
  • Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration (2 counts);
  • Uttering Threats;
  • Intimidation of a Justice Participant

The man appeared in Shelburne Provincial Court on August 4 and was remanded into custody. He will next appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on August 8, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Operation Homeward is ongoing.

The identities of the men are not being released by the RCMP at this time out of respect for the privacy of the victims and the publication ban that has been put in place by the courts.

Police investigate weapons incidents and charge man with weapons offences

Police investigated two shootings that occurred in Halifax last night and arrested a man in relation to weapons offences.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Micmac Street and Chisholm Avenue. A residence in the area had been struck with bullets. There were no reported injuries. A dark-coloured vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Bently Drive. Officers located evidence of a shooting in the area. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. officers located a single vehicle crash into a power pole in the area of Lacewood Drive near Lincoln Cross Drive. The vehicle matched the description from the earlier incident. Evidence of a shooting was located with the vehicle and a loaded handgun was seized. The driver of the vehicle was arrested without incident.

Shiquawn Marcel Upshaw-Paris, 26, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x 2)
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Breach of a court order (x 3)

The investigations are in the early stages and investigators in the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are looking at commonalities between the incidents to determine if they are related. Police lay charges in relation to child pornography investigation

Police have laid charges after conducting a search in Halifax in relation to a child pornography investigation.

Investigators in the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division conducted a search of an address in Halifax after receiving information that an individual had obtained and was sharing pornographic material of children online. Investigators seized a number of electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Halifax District RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating homicide in East Preston

August 14, 2022, East Preston, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating a homicide believed to have occurred on Brian St. in East Preston.

This morning, at approximately 2 a.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious death on Brian St. in East Preston. RCMP officers found the body of a deceased man on the side of the road at the end of a driveway. The RCMP is investigating the death as a homicide.

At this time, we believe the incident was targeted in nature. There is no risk to the public.

The investigation is being led by the Halifax District RCMP Major Crime Unit and is being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP police dog services and Halifax District RCMP.

Antigonish County District RCMP investigates mischief to fire department filling station

August 11, 2022, Monastery, Nova Scotia…Antigonish District RCMP is looking for information in relation to damage to a filling station used by a local fire department on Old Monastery Rd in Monastery.

On August 9, 2022, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Antigonish District RCMP responded to a report of damage to a filling station used by local fire department on Old Monastery Rd. in Monastery. RCMP officers learned that sometime between July 31 and August 8, the filling pipe on a water station, utilized by a local fire department, was cut. The damage caused to the filling station could have delayed a response by the fire department, affecting public safety.

Police continue to investigate Halifax shooting

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate a shooting that occurred last month in Halifax and are now releasing a photograph of the suspect.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 10 officers responded to a shooting in the 1600 block of Argyle Street. A group of people in the area were in a physical altercation and the suspect shot one of the men in the group. A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a Black man in his 20s, approximately 5’8” tall, medium build, short black hair and facial hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black t-shirt, jeans, red sneakers and a grey shoulder bag.

Police investigate Bedford Highway robbery

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in Halifax early this morning.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. police received a report that a robbery had occurred at the Circle K convenience store located at 389 Bedford Highway. A man entered the store, demanded money and then fled on foot with a quantity of cash and cigarettes.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 5’5” tall and a thin build. He was wearing a black jacket with a hood, a face mask and was carrying a green shopping bag.

August 9, 2022, Eskasoni, Nova Scotia…Today marks 1 year since the death of Andrew Morris of Eskasoni.

On August 9, 2021, 30-year-old Andrew Carter Morris was found deceased on Beach Rd. in Eskasoni. It was determined he was the victim of a homicide.

The Nova Scotia Department of Justice is offering rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Andrew Morris. The Provincial Rewards line is 1-888-710-9090.

At 10:32 pm, Police responded to a report of gunshots at Micmac Street / Chisholm Avenue and located evidence of a shooting. There were no reported injuries. Micmac Street remains closed to traffic at Chisholm Avenue while police investigates the incident.
