Stolen Truck

December 29, 2017, Cloverville, Nova Scotia … Antigonish RCMP is investigating the theft of an antique truck from a residence in Cloverville.

Sometime between December 23 and December 27, a 1977 Ford ¾ ton F250 pick-up truck, green in color, was stolen. The truck was recently refurbished and did not have a license plate on it.

Home invasion in Waverley NS

December 20, 2017, Waverley, Nova Scotia … Prior to 8:30 p.m. last evening, Halifax District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a home invasion at a home on Joe St. in Waverley.

A 56-year-old woman heard a knock at her door, looked out and observed a man who informed her he was a police officer. She opened the door, at which time she was assaulted and sprayed with a sensory irritant. At this time, three other men, all wearing masks and described as being of large build and tall, also entered the home but all four men immediately left. The first male, who she opened her door for, is described as being white, late twenties, with scruffy blond hair, 5’6 and average weight. He was wearing dark clothing and a ball cap.

All four men proceeded to run from the house and are suspected of having fled the area in a car parked near Waverley Rd. The victim was treated at the scene by EHS for minor injuries. The other person in the home at the time of the incident, a 26-year-old woman, was not injured.

RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Section assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the General Investigative Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. Home invasion in Middle Sackville

December 15, 2017, Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia . . . The resident of a home on Hanwell Dr. in Middle Sackville responded to a knock at his door last evening around 9 p.m., and was confronted by two men who forced their way inside. The victim was assaulted and restrained while the men rummaged through the home. Once the suspects left the residence, the victim was able to free himself and ran to a neighbouring residence for help. The victim was not hurt, however a number of items were stolen from his home.

RCMP responded immediately and conducted extensive patrols of the area. A K-9 unit from Halifax Regional Police also searched the area, but the suspects were not located. They are described as male, the first was approximately 5-foot-5, and the second man was taller. Both were wearing ski masks.

Hit & Run

December 18, 2017, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP would like to speak with the driver of a vehicle that struck and damaged a retaining wall on Old Sackville Rd. in Lower Sackville around 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The vehicle is described as a silver Hyundai that will have extensive damage to its front bumper, as parts were located at the scene. Other motorists are believed to have witnessed this collision and are also asked to contact RCMP.

Attempted Armed Robberies

On December 14, 2017, Lower Sackville and Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia . . . Just before 3 a.m., a man entered a deli on Sackville Dr. in Lower Sackville. He pulled a large black knife on the employee, used it to direct him towards the counter, and demanded cigarettes. The employee, who was alone in the store, produced a bat and poked at the suspect with it. The suspect then ran from the scene, toward the parking lot of a nearby church. It is believed he got into a vehicle with another man and left the scene. No one was hurt and nothing was taken from the deli. A police dog was used to track the suspect but did not locate anyone.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a long red and white sweater, with a grey hat. He was 5-foot-5 tall, and was clean shaven.

At 4:23 a.m., a man entered a service station on Hwy. 1 in Mount Uniacke, and asked the clerk for cigarettes. The man then produced a large black knife, and asked for all of the money. Another vehicle came into the parking lot, and the clerk told the suspect to leave. He fled the store on foot and got into the passenger side of a vehicle which was parked on the side of the road. The vehicle headed in the direction of Lower Sackville. Nothing was stolen and no one was hurt. RCMP members made an immediate patrol to the area and did not locate the suspect(s).

This suspect is described as a short white man in his late 20’s with a thin build. He had some stubble on his face.

The investigations are ongoing, and investigators feel these two attempted robberies are related. The Lower Sackville matter is being investigated by the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, and the Mount Uniacke matter is being investigated by East Hants District RCMP.

Assault Dartmouth, NS

At 5:24PM on Wednesday December 13, 2017 HRP officers responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 24 Nantucket Avenue (Metro Transit Bus Terminal). A male had been crossing the road near the McDonalds restaurant and had a verbal altercation with the occupants of a car that had sped by him. The occupants exited the vehicle (described as a possible green Honda) and one of the males sprayed him with a sensory irritant. The males then fled the area and the victim came in the direction of the bus terminal, where he was attended to medically. The 28-year-old male victim was treated and released at the scene and the only suspect description was 2 black males.

Police warn citizens of recent break and enters

Halifax Regional Police is advising the public after two recent reports of break and enters into homes in Halifax and Dartmouth.

At 8 a.m. on December 5, police received a report of a break and enter not in progress at a residence on Summit Street in Dartmouth. The homeowners woke up to discover the backdoor ajar and that someone had entered their residence. Several items within the house were noted as missing, such a cell phone, digital camera and money. It’s believed the suspect(s) entered the house through an unlocked door. No one was physically inured during this incident, nor were any suspects observed.

At 2:13 a.m. on December 13, police responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Federal Avenue for a break and enter in progress. The residents had been sleeping when they heard a loud noise. The resident went downstairs and encountered two males in his front entry way. He yelled at the males who immediately ran out the door and were last seen running on foot towards Romans Avenue. It’s believed the males entered the house through an unlocked door. Nothing was taken and no one was injured.

To reduce the risk of your house being broken into, make sure that windows and doors are locked before you leave your home. If you have sliding windows or patio doors, place a piece of wood along the tracks to make them more difficult to open. If your home is equipped with an alarm, ensure it is activated when you leave. If you observe suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to police by calling 902-490-5020. Try to get a good description of the person including height, weight, clothing and other details. Take a look to see if there is a vehicle parked nearby and make note of the license plate number, make and model of the vehicle.

Laundry Room Thefts, Dartmouth NS

There have been five related theft and damage from/to Coin operated laundry machines located in apartments on Boland Ave in Dartmouth. Sometime during the evening of November 21st, between 2 and 8 pm, someone(s) entered Apartment buildings located at 122, 130, 167, 169 and 171 Boland Ave. and took an unknown quantity of change from coin operated washers and dryers. In the process the machines themselves were damaged. There was no sign of forced entry into any of the buildings and the laundry rooms themselves are always left open for the tenants.

Police are also investigating 7 separate thefts from coin operated laundry machines located in apartments between October 6th and 10th and again on November 23rd and 30th. These apartments are located on Lakefront Dr in Dartmouth. Again an unknown quantity of change was taken from the machines, damading them in the process and no forced entry was observed into the buildings. It’s believed by police the Lakefront thefts and Boland Ave. thefts may be related.

Vehicle/pedestrian hit and run

Halifax Regional Police is requesting the public’s assistance to identify the driver involved in a vehicle pedestrian hit and run that occurred in Halifax last month.

At 9:41 p.m. on November 27, a 25-year old woman was in a marked crosswalk on Connaught Avenue at Almon Street when she was hit by a car. The car was on Almon Street making a left turn onto Connaught Avenue when the collision occurred and the driver made no attempt to stop.

The pedestrian and witnesses describe the vehicle as a gold or silver Chrysler PT Cruiser. There is no description of the driver. The pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision for which she was assessed and released at the scene by EHS.

Police Continue to Investigate the Disappearance of Daniel Baker

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of Daniel Baker and investigators with the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

On December 12, 1997, at approximately 11 p.m., Daniel left a residence on Preston Street in Halifax and was going to walk to a restaurant on Quinpool Road. It has not been confirmed if he made it to his destination and he has not been heard from since.

Daniel is described as 6′ 1″ , approximately 155 lbs., with short dark blonde hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. When last seen, he was wearing a dark blue red and white dress shirt, blue jeans, black suede jacket, white Reebok sneakers, and black leather gloves. Daniel alternated his residency between Halifax and Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, for many years, before moving back to Halifax in July 1997.

This case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program
