RCMP warns of counterfeit currency incidents

June 9, 2018, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia…Nova Scotia RCMP would like to advise the public that over the past four weeks, there have been multiple investigations into primarily fifty dollar counterfeit bills circulating in Annapolis, Kings, Lunenburg and Yarmouth counties.  Some cases involve bills with symbols added, or, others that have been defaced. 

Passing counterfeit money is a crime. The RCMP reminds consumers to be diligent when accepting cash to avoid becoming a victim to these types of crimes, especially in light of the fact that if you unknowingly accept a counterfeit bill, you cannot be reimbursed. Police are currently investigating a robbery that occurred early Monday morning at Shoppers Drug Mart in Dartmouth.

At 1:16 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 80 Tacoma Drive in Dartmouth. A man entered the store, produced a hammer and demanded cash from an employee. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed sum of money.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’8” to 6’1” tall, with an athletic build. He was wearing a black and grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a blue mask, dark sunglasses, brown and white checkered flannel pajama pants and black shoes.

Police investigate robbery

Investigators in the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are investigating a robbery that occurred in Dartmouth on June 9.

At 11:30 p.m., patrol members responded to the 0-100 block of Albro Lake Road for a report of a man who had broken into a residence and assaulted a woman. The woman awoke when she heard a man inside her residence demanding money. A physical altercation occurred between the two wherein both the man and the woman struck each other with objects. The man fled when a neighbour who heard the disturbance, yelled out to the victim. The woman was treated at the scene by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’10” tall and 160 lbs. He was wearing a thick hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and drawn tightly around his face. He was last seen running towards Albro Lake Road.

June 8, 2018, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is asking for public assistance following an incident that occurred last evening in Cole Harbour.

Just before 7:30 p.m. last evening, a 13-year-old girl was walking south on John Stewart Dr. in Cole Harbour when she was grabbed from behind and pulled by her arm in to a walking path towards the woods. The suspect pulled her a short distance down the walking path until the girl was able to run away. The girl was not injured during the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male, early twenties, approximately 5”10, lean build, dark hair, shaved on sides and brush cut on top, wearing black sneakers, blue jeans and a teal coloured 3-button t-shirt.

RCMP is asking anyone who might have been in the area around the time of the incident to contact them. This includes a woman who was observed by the victim walking her German Shepherd dog with a red leash prior to the incident.

It’s been 25 years since 17-year-old Shelley Denise Connors was murdered and investigators are asking anyone with information that can help solve the case to come forward.

Shelley disappeared on the afternoon of May 29, 1993. She was last seen leaving the apartment where she lived with her family in Spryfield. When she hadn’t returned or called the next day, her worried family reported her missing to police. On June 1, officers found Shelley’s body, which had been partially covered with leaves and branches, in a wooded area approximately 182 metres (200 yards) behind the Spryfield Lions Rink at 25 Drysdale Road in Halifax.

Investigators have continued to work the case, following up on leads and applying new technologies to find out who was responsible for murdering Shelley. They believe there are people who have information about Shelly’s death and they need them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know.
