Police continue to investigate murder of Corey Murphy

Saturday will mark the 15th anniversary of the murder of Corey William Murphy and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is asking for the public’s assistance in providing information in relation to his death.

On March 2, 2004, at approximately 7:45 p.m. police were dispatched to a call of a man who had been shot near the area of Herring Cove Road and Hilden Drive in Halifax. Upon arrival officers located Corey Murphy who had been shot and was taken by ambulance to hospital where he later died.

Investigators believe there are people who have information in relation to Corey’s death, and hope that the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It’s never too late and no piece of information is too small; it could be just what is needed to advance the investigation.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a quantity of cash that was lost this week in Halifax.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on February 27 police received a call reporting that a woman had withdrawn a quantity of cash from the automatic teller machine located in the Lawton’s Drugs at 16 Dentith Road in Halifax.  It is believed that the envelope containing the cash fell and was lost near the machine.

Halifax District RCMP seeks public’s help to identify suspect in assault at Sackville bar

Halifax District RCMP seeks public’s help to identify suspect in assault at local bar

March 1, 2019, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia… On January 27 just after 2 a.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a local bar on Sackville Drive. Police arrived on scene and dispersed the crowd. Several of the parties involved in the disturbance had left prior to police arrival. The investigation revealed that a man was assaulted by two other men. The victim attended the hospital and was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, one of the suspects was identified as Treyton Alexander Marsman, 20, from Lakeside.   Marsman was arrested without incident on February 20 and appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court later that day on charges of Assault and Breach of Recognizance. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on March 13 at 09:30 a.m.

The second suspect has not yet been identified and RCMP is requesting the public’s help. The suspect is described as in his mid 20s, 6-foot with black hair and facial hair.

At 4:27 p.m. this evening police attended the intersection at North St and Fuller Terrace for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

There were no injuries reported and the matter is still under investigation.

Shots fired through windows on Willowbend Court in Halifax

Police are currently onscene at a weapons complaint

At approximately 9:39 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to the 0-100 block of Willowbend Court in Halifax after a report of possible shots fired.  Police located a residence with damage to the windows.  There are no reports of injuries at this time.

There is currently a large police presence in the area and we ask that the public to remain out of the area at this time while we conduct an investigation.

The investigation is currently in the preliminary stages and more information will be released when available.

Suspicious Activity, Dartmouth

Police advise of suspicious activity 

Police are making the public aware of suspicious activity that occurred this week in Dartmouth. 

On February 25, police were called to a report of a man who had followed a youth for a short distance on Bonnie Brae Drive in Dartmouth. When the youth stopped to wait for the bus, the man said nothing but motioned to come toward his vehicle. The youth ran away from the scene and the man also left the area.  

The man was described as an elderly man, clean shaven, wearing glasses and was wearing a glove on one hand. The vehicle is described as an older model brown or yellow car, similar to a hatchback. 

In this case, the youth did the right thing by not approaching the vehicle, running away and letting a responsible adult know of the incident.

Break & Enter, Berwick

Berwick, Nova Scotia . . . On February 11 at 3:11 a.m., Kings District RCMP responded to an alarm from a convenience store on Main St. in Berwick.

Two male suspects entered the store by smashing the front door. Both suspects are observed on surveillance video. The first man is wearing a black mask and toque, khaki pants, dark coat and black shoes with white trim. The second man is wearing a camouflage jacket and pants, black shoes and a black mask. The suspects took lottery tickets and cash from the business before fleeing the scene.

Kings District RCMP is investigating the matter and has released video of the incident to the public in effort to identify the men involved. Robbery, Dartmouth

Police Investigate Robbery

At approx. 2:25 am, Halifax Regional Police responded to the 200 block of Victoria Rd, Dartmouth for a Robbery. A taxi driver reported he was just robbed at gunpoint, and money was taken. The suspect is described as a white male, thin build, pock marked face, wearing a black hoodie. The suspect fled on foot. There were no injuries.

2018 Black Mustang GT stolen from Greenwood car dealer

On February 20, 2019 at 16:13 hours Kings County RCMP received a report of the theft of a black 2018 Ford Mustang GT from Greenwood Auto Sales, Greenwood, N.S. The theft had taken place at some point after close of business on February 15, 2019 at approximately 17:00 hours.

The vehicle is equipped with electronic push button start which requires the key to start.

February 22, 2019, Barrington, Nova Scotia . . . Charges have been laid against six people following an incident where a man was injured after being assaulted by a group of people. The incident occurred on Scotts Mill Rd. in Barrington, in the early morning hours of February 13. A woman was also injured in the incident.

James Leslie Gerald Kane, 40, of Barrington, was arrested on February 14, appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 15, and is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)
  • Point Firearm (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (1 count)
  • Careless Use Firearm (1 count)
  • Discharging a Firearm with Intent to Cause Bodily Harm (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to an Order (1 count)

He appeared on February 21 has been held in custody to appear in court in Yarmouth Provincial Court on March 6.

Steven Kyle Scott, 29, of Barrington, was arrested on February 14, appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 15, and is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (1 count)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)

He is being held in custody and is appearing in court in Yarmouth on February 28.

Terry James Decker, 42, of Jordan Falls, was arrested on February 14, appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 15, and is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (1 count)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (1 count)

He appeared in court on February 21, and is being held in custody to appear in court in Yarmouth Provincial Court on March 6.

Kristin Lynn Thistle, 31, of Barrington, was arrested on February 14, appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 15, and is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (1 count)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)

She was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on April 3.

Carmen Steven Shaw, 20, of Barrington, was arrested on February 16, and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 19. He is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (1 count)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)
  • Obstruction (1 count)

He appeared in court on February 21 and has been released from custody on conditions. He is scheduled to return to Yarmouth Provincial Court on April 18.

Keaton Hiltz, 24, of Clyde River, was arrested on February 16, and appeared in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 19. He is charged with:

  • Attempted Murder Using a Firearm (1 count)
  • Unlawful Confinement (1 count)
  • Assault with a Weapon (1 count)

He was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court on March 20.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit.
