RCMP investigates shots fired

 September 13, 2019, Westphal, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is investigating a report of shots fired at a residence in Westphal.

September 9 just before midnight, Halifax District RCMP received a complaint of gun shots being fired at a residence on Auburn Dr. in Westphal. No one was at the residence at the time and no one was injured. The residence was found to have minor damage.

Police do not believe this was a random act.

Public assistance requested: firearm found in backpack

September 11, 2019, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia . . . On August 30, just before 3 p.m., a man entered a restaurant on Sackville Dr. in Lower Sackville and left a short time later. He left a backpack behind, and when an employee checked inside for contact information for the owner, they found a firearm inside. They contacted the RCMP, who seized the firearm.

The matter is now being investigated by the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. Police have obtained surveillance photos of the person who left the firearm and are releasing them to the public in the event anyone can identify him.

Police Investigate Halifax Robbery

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred earlier this evening in Halifax.

At approximately 6:43 p.m. police responded to the Griffins Smoke Shop located within the Mumford Road Sobeys store.

A male dressed in a black Security Guard uniform armed with a knife entered the business and demanded cash.  The employee was uninjured and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.  He was last observed walking on Mumford Road towards Chebucto Road.  The Security Guard uniform had reflective bands on each of the arms.

Soon after the incident investigators believe the suspect changed his clothing and was last observed wearing a red jacket with black and white striped down the sleeves, an orange T-shirt, blue track pants with a white stripe and black sneakers with white soles. He was also carrying a black bag with polka dots.  After changing the suspect was last observed heading towards the Mumford Road Walmart store.

He is further described as a white male,  between 50-60 years old, approximately 5’8”, slim build, wearing glasses and possibly grey hair.

Help RCMP locate missing pontoon boat

Halifax District RCMP is requesting public help to locate a pontoon boat that went missing from a parking lot in Waverley between the night of September 7 and the morning of September 8.

Between 10 p.m. on September 7 and 7:15 a.m. on September 8, the boat and the trailer it was on went missing from the parking lot in the 1600 block of Waverley Rd.

The boat was on a black 2015 Shoreland’r trailer (model # PT2547TB, no licence plate attached) parked between a building and a tractor trailer. The boat is described as a green and white 25-foot 2005 GODF Sanpan FE2500 with a outboard Mercury 115 horsepower motor.

RCMP investigates arson

September 10, 2019, Lake Echo, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is investigating an arson that occurred at a home in Lake Echo.

Yesterday morning at 11 a.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a house fire on Bumpy Lane in Lake Echo. The investigation determined that the fire was suspicious in nature. One man was seen fleeing the home at the time of the fire and there were no other occupants. No one was injured as a result of the fire. At approximately 2:10 p.m., RCMP arrested a 28-year-old man without incident, in relation to the fire.

The investigation is ongoing and is now being led by the Integrated General Investigation Section.

September 9, 2019, Sandy Cove, Nova Scotia . . . On September 8 shortly after 9 a.m., a body was found on the beach in Sandy Cove, Digby County.

The RCMP is working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to assist with the identification of the remains and the circumstance that lea to the death. The investigation is ongoing.

RCMP urges safety as Hurricane Dorian approaches

September 6, 2019, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia . . . With Hurricane Dorian continuing to track toward our province, the RCMP urges citizens to be mindful of the dangers that the storm may present.

As the storm approaches, it is important to remember that extreme weather will result in hazardous conditions, decreased visibility and possible hydro-planing on our roads and highways. Drivers may also encounter wind-blown debris on the road and sudden flooding which can be dangerous for motorists and detrimental to highway conditions. The RCMP encourage the public to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles and refrain from unnecessary travel until after the storm has passed and clean-up efforts are complete. If you must travel, allow for additional travel time, let someone know your destination, slow down, watch for pooling water and use your hazard signals if you must stop along the way.

The RCMP encourages the public to maintain a safe viewing distance along beaches and shorelines, well away from the water’s edge and stay completely off rocks, breakwaters, and piers where waves are breaking. Storm-driven waves and tides can cause unpredictable and deadly conditions, as anyone close to the coast could be swept into the ocean.

Police charge five people after search of illegal cannabis dispensary

Police have charged five people after conducting a search of an illegal cannabis dispensary yesterday in Bedford.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., members of the Drug Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and West Division Community Response Officers, conducted a search warrant at East Coast Greenery located at 793 Bedford Highway in Bedford. Investigators seized almost $8,000, approximately 10 pounds of cannabis, over 4 pounds of hashish and approximately 14,000 other cannabis products.

Five people were arrested at the location without incident:

• Noah Mansfield Greiss, 28, of Halifax
• Jason Paul Pelley, 40, of Dartmouth
• Stephanie Alexandra Clarke, 30, of Dartmouth
• Troy William Power, 28, of Halifax
• Nicholos Quinlan Hood, 32, of Willamswood

The five accused are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

• Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing contrary to Section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act
• Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling contrary to Section 10(2) of the Cannabis Act
• Possession for the use in production or distribution of illicit cannabis contrary to Section 13(1) of the Cannabis Act
• Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

The only legal way to buy recreational cannabis in Nova Scotia is through the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation Cannabis retail and online outlets. The only legal way for Canadians to access medical cannabis is through Health Canada.
