RCMP seeking assistance to identify person of interest

November 1, 2024, Whites Lake, Nova Scotia… RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man involved in a break and enter in Whites Lake.

On October 31, at approximately 1:30 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a break and enter at a home near the 3000 block of Prospect Rd. Investigators learned that a man was seen breaking into the residence before leaving the area with valuables; he fled in a white Volkswagen Jetta.

A short time later, an RCMP officer observed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused pull over. In the interest of public safety, a pursuit was not initiated.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the man of interest was seen fleeing on foot after the Volkswagen he was driving crashed at the intersection of Prospect Rd. and St Margarets Bay Rd. in Beechville. A search was conducted with assistance from Police Dog Services and Halifax Regional Police, but the man was not located.

The man is described as white and in his mid-to-late twenties. He’s about 5-foot-8 and 150-160 lbs. He has short brown hair, a goatee and abrasions on his face and arms. At the time of the break-in, the man was wearing a grey t-shirt and dark pants.  

The investigation is ongoing.

Police investigate shooting

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a shooting that occurred last night in Halifax.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a weapons call and an injured person in the 1900 block of Robie Street. Officers located a man who had been shot. The man was taken to the hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is in the early stages.

Police investigate break and enter

Halifax Regional Police is investigating two break and enters that occurred in parking garages in Halifax early Sunday morning.

On October 27th at approximately 7:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a break and enter into the parking garage in the 200 block of Larry Uteck Blvd. During the investigation, officers determined approximately 15 vehicles had been broken into at that location as well as approximately 11 more vehicles in a second parking garage located in the 200 block area of Larry Uteck Blvd. The investigation is ongoing.

The first suspect is described as a white man, slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark boots, blue jeans a gray waist length hooded jacket, a green baseball type hat and a scarf. The second suspect is described as a white man, slim build. At the time of the incident, he had a short beard, was wearing all dark clothing and a black baseball type hat with a red Toronto Raptors logo on it. The suspects left the area in a white four door Volkswagen. 

Police encourage anyone who believes their property may have been stolen from their vehicle to file a report with police.

Thieves steal woodchipper in Bible Hill- help solve the theft

On 2024-10-24 at 1149 hours Bible Hill RCMP received a complaint of a stolen 2024 Bandit 200XP Wood Chipper. This is a industrial wood chipper trailer. It was stolen from the Canadian Tire parking lot in Lower Truro on the 23 of October at 2121 hours after the trailer was left unattended. The suspect is a red truck and fled towards the 102 Highway. License plate on the trailer is T540605.

Help catch Thorburn truck thief

On October 20th, 2024 Pictou County RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle from the residence in Thorburn, Nova Scotia. The vehicle is described as a 2016 orange Toyota Tacoma, bearing Nova Scotia plate: GVY928. The vehicle is quite unique with several aftermarket parts namely: aftermarket head lamps, blacked out aftermarket tail lights, aftermarket wheels, and a unique front grill. In the photos provided below a “Browning” company logo can be observed on the rear windshield on the driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was last scene on October 19th, 2024 at approximately 2330 hours parked in Thorburn.

Police investigate robbery

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a robbery that occurred in Dartmouth yesterday

On October 23, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in progress at the Irving gas station, located at 220 Victoria Road.  A man entered the store, threatened the cashier with a metal, wrench-like tool and demanded money. The man went behind the counter, accessed the drawers and fled the area on foot with a quantity of cigars.

The man is described as a white man, approximately 5’ 10” tall. At the time of the incident, his face was covered with a medical mask and he was wearing a royal blue sweater with the hood up, a black winter puffy jacket, grey or beige shorts and red sneakers.

UPDATE: Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit now leading investigation into fatal shooting in Kingston

October 23, 2024, Kingston, Nova Scotia… The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over an investigation into a shooting in Kingston, where a man has since died.

On March 6, 2023, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the Pleasant St. area in Kingston. RCMP officers located a 30-year-old man laying in a driveway on Pleasant St. He had suffered gunshot wounds and was transported to hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Four people were arrested later in the evening; however, all were later released without charge, pending further investigation.

On September 30, 2024, the victim passed away in hospital and on October 1, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiners Office ruled the death a homicide. The investigation was subsequently taken over by the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit.

Over the last 20 months, the investigation was led by the Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section. Numerous search warrants were executed, evidence has been seized and witnesses have been interviewed. Persons of interest have been identified and investigators believe that the victim was targeted.

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is being supported by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, RCMP Digital Forensic Services and the Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section. Police continue to investigate the disappearance of Ian David MacKeigan

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Ian David MacKeigan and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

Ian was reported missing on October 25, 1984. He was last seen by a family member on October 22 when he left his residence on Manor Lane in Halifax in his red 1978 Plymouth Horizon TC3 hatchback. He told the family member that he was going to meet some friends, possibly at the former Palace nightclub on Brunswick Street in Halifax. Ian has not been seen or heard from since that time.

Ian had graduated from a welding course in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and moved to Halifax in July 1984. He was employed in his trade for two weeks prior to his disappearance.

Investigators believe there are people who have information about Ian’s disappearance and hope that the passage of time encourages someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation into Ian’s disappearance.

Ian’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers must contact the Rewards Program at 1-888-710-9090, must provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division investigating suspicious deaths

October 18, 2024, Enfield, Nova Scotia… The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is investigating two suspicious deaths that occurred in Enfield.

On October 18 at approximately 10:45 a.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a request to check on the wellbeing of two people at a home on Rockcliffe Dr. in Enfield. Responding officers found the remains of two adults deceased in the residence. The deaths are being treated as suspicious, the individuals were known to one another.

The ongoing investigation is lead by the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and supported by the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, Nova Scotia RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. There is no evidence at this time to suggest any risk to the public.

The investigation is in the initial stages and no further information will be released at this time.

Our thoughts are with the deceased’s families at this difficult time.

RCMP investigating suspicious incidents in HRM

October 17, 2024, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia… RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is asking for the public’s help in identifying persons of interest following two suspicious incidents that occurred in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

On October 15, at approximately 8:30 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Cow Bay Rd. and Samuel Danial Dr. in Eastern Passage. An 18-year-old woman was approached by a man on a transit bus who asked for her phone number and address and followed her when she got off the bus.

The man of interest is described as black and in his 30s. He was wearing black jeans and a blue hoodie.

Yesterday, at approximately 12:40 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Ashgrove Ave. and Cole Harbour Rd. in Cole Harbour. They learned that a 67-year-old woman had exited a transit bus and was followed by a man who was also on the bus. The woman evaded the man by entering a nearby building.

The person of interest is described as a black man in his 30s with spiky black hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing khaki pants and a yellow vest.

At this time, investigators don’t have any information to indicate whether the men described are the same person or if the incidents are related. Video footage of the incidents is being sought and the investigations are ongoing.
