Assault With A Weapon, Cole Harbour

December 31, 2019, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for public’s help to identify four youths involved in an assault with a weapon on December 29 in Cole Harbour.

Just after 9 p.m., Halifax District RCMP received of call of an assault with a weapon on Parkedge Cres. The victim heard voices in his backyard, near his shed and observed four male youths. He asked them to leave his property. The victim followed them off his property when one youth turned, spoke to him and then pulled out a gun.  The youth fired shots in the air from what is believed to be a pellet gun, pointed the gun in the direction of the victim and fired more shots.  The four youths then fled to a wooded trail near the victim’s home.

The victim, a 49-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The four suspects are described as white males, approximately 17-years-old with slim builds. The youth carrying the gun was wearing a bright blue hooded sweater with the hood over his head and another youth was wearing a grey hooded sweater.

RCMP investigates fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision in East Margaree

December 29, 2019, East Margaree, Nova Scotia… Inverness District RCMP is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred on December 26 in East Margaree and are asking for people who may have seen the collision to come forward.

At 10 a.m., Inverness District RCMP received a 911 call of a vehicle-pedestrian collision in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Margaree Rd. Preliminary investigation indicates a 76-year-old man pedestrian from East Margaree was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. The driver was not injured.

EHS transported the man to hospital where he later died.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Mischief, St Peters.

December 28, 2019, St. Peter’s, Nova Scotia…  Richmond County RCMP is asking for public help to solve a mischief that occurred in St. Peter’s between the evening of December 25 and early morning of December 26.

On December 26, RCMP received a report of a fishing boat that sunk in the St. Peter’s Canal. The boat was later removed from the canal and examined. The initial investigation has determined the incident to be suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing and led by the Richmond County RCMP.

Robbery, Halifax

On Friday, December 28th, 2019, at approximately 11 pm, Halifax Regional Police responded to 3514 Joseph Howe Drive, Halifax, the Pizza Pizza Restaurant, for a robbery in progress call. Suspect produced a weapon and obtained a small amount of cash prior to fleeing area on foot. HRP K9 Unit assisted patrol members with preliminary investigation, along with members of the Integrated General Investigation Section.

Break & Enter, Berwick

Three break-ins at the same location within a month 

December 23, 2019, Berwick, Nova Scotia . . .  Kingston RCMP is asking for help from the public to solve three break and enters that have occurred at a residential care facility in Berwick. The breaks occurred on December 2, 6, and 21. On two occasions, gas cans were stolen.

  • On December 2 at 1:07 p.m., the RCMP responded to a call indicating a break and enter to a shed, and six jerry cans full of gasoline were stolen.
  • On December 6 at 9:53 a.m., the RCMP responded to a call indicating that overnight, the lock was pried off the outdoor shed. Nothing was taken.
  • On December 21 at 6:06 a.m., the RCMP responded to a call indicating that the shed had again been broken into. Suspects gained entry by cutting the hasp from the door. A chain was used inside the door to secure some power tools and gas cans. The chain had been cut and the gas cans were stolen. A witness saw two people leaving the area around 4 a.m. that date, carrying something red.

Police seek to identify suspect in gas station robberies

Police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspect in two robberies of a Halifax gas station that occurred earlier this month.

On December 9 shortly before 9 p.m. police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the Petro Canada gas station at 7015 Bayers Road. A man entered the store, stated that he had a weapon and demanded cigarettes and money. The suspect left on foot with an amount of cigarettes and cash. No one was injured and no weapon was observed.

On December 12 at approximately 6:30 a.m. police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the same Petro Canada gas station. A man entered the store and demanded cigarettes and money. The suspect left on foot eastbound on Bayers Road with an amount of cigarettes and cash. No one was injured, and no weapon was observed.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’9”, with a thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black winter jacket, blue jeans and black Adidas sneakers with white soles.

RCMP investigates theft of Christmas decorations

December 18, 2019, Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is investigating the theft of Christmas decorations in Middle Sackville.

On December 16, just before midnight, suspect(s) stole decorations, including a 5-foot-tall deer, presents and a spotlight from a home on Darlington Dr. A nearby home also had a spotlight stolen. The decorations were later found destroyed on a nearby street.

Missing Person: Michael James Batty

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 43-year-old Dartmouth man.

Michael James Batty was last heard from in early November. He was reported missing to police on December 16, 2019.

Michael is described as a white man, 5’11”, 181 lbs. with dark hair. He is known to frequent the north end of Dartmouth.

There is no information to suggest that Michael has met with foul play, however, his family and police are concerned for his well-being.

Police investigate theft of Christmas tree

Police are looking to identify two grinches who stole a decorated Christmas tree from a commercial residence in Halifax yesterday.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. on December 16 police received a report of a theft that had occurred from an apartment building on Grandhaven Boulevard in Halifax. Two women gained entry to the lobby of the building where they took the fully decorated Christmas tree.

The first suspect is described as a woman approximately 35 to 45-years-old with a slim build and long brown hair. She was wearing a pink and red track suit and a dark coloured toque. The second suspect was described as a woman approximately 20 to 30-years-old with long dark hair. She was wearing a black coat with fur on the hood, pink top and black tights.

Scammer defrauds victim by asking for help identifying bank activity

December 16, 2019, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is warning the public of a recent scam involving a caller asking for help to identify suspicious transactions made by a bank employee.

On December 15, RCMP responded to a complaint from a 74-year-old Cole Harbour woman who was defrauded a sum of money. The victim had received a call from someone stating that there was unauthorized activity on her credit card and suggested it was a bank employee who may be responsible. The caller asked the victim to help identify the employee by downloading software and was told she would receive a sum of money to purchase gift cards. She was then asked to provide the codes to the caller to see how the bank would deal with the transactions.

Police want to remind the public that being scammed is never the victim’s fault and that these individuals can be very persuasive and convincing. You are not alone if you have been the victim of fraud.
