RCMP investigating copper wire theft and property damage at Waverley substation

February 8, 2019, Waverley, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is investigating a break and enter causing property damage and the theft of copper wire from a Nova Scotia Power substation in Waverley.

Sometime between February 6 at 11 a.m. and February 7 at 8 a.m., the suspect(s) drove a large vehicle into the locked gate of a fence surrounding a substation on Waverley Rd. in Waverley. As a result, the gate was forced open and the fence was damaged. The suspect(s) then stole copper wire from several different areas, which would have taken some time to accomplish. The suspect(s) also broke into a trailer within the substation, where they stole an electric heater and slings for carrying tools. The combined theft, damage and human resource costs to re-install replacement copper wire is estimated to be approximately $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Nova Scotia Power prohibits public access to its substations and other facilities that contain high voltage electrical equipment due to the high risk to personal and public safety. Anyone who unlawfully enters these premises is risking severe injuries to themselves and significant damage to onsite equipment.

On February 9^th at 1:23 am Halifax Regional Police received a call of three males beating up another male in a parking lot in the 10-20 block of Plateau Cres, Halifax.

At 1:32 am a call was received of a male in the 10-20 block of Braeside Crt, Halifax that had been stabbed.

When officers arrived they discovered a 20 year old man that had been stabbed.    It is believed that both incidents are related.  The man was taken to the QEII and is being treated for an injury that is not life threatening.  Patrol and K-9 members searched the area and were not able to locate the suspects.  The only description available is that the suspect were white males.  The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call police at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). February 7, 2019, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia…The General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is requesting public assistance to identify a suspect after shots were fired in Cole Harbour yesterday.

At approximately 5 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to calls regarding gunshots in Cole Harbour. The investigation revealed that two vehicles were seen travelling at a high rate of speed on Circassion Dr. One vehicle, described as gold, beige or brown car with tinted windows, had a suspect in the passenger’s seat. The suspect, who is described as a Black male with a light complexion was seen firing a rifle at a white or silver 4-door car. A description of the driver is not available.

No injuries or property damage have been reported in relation to this incident. The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section is assisting.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in returning a unique pendant to its rightful owner. 

On August 19, 2018 officers attended an apartment building in the 0-100 block of Old Sambro Road in Halifax to take custody of a small stainless-steel pendant that had been found outside the building. The pendant has detailed engravings on the front and may be a piece of memorial cremation jewelry. 

We recognize that this pendant may have sentimental value and we would like to return it to its owner. Anyone with information on the pendant is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the murder of Michael Joseph Peverill and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is asking for the public’s assistance in providing information in relation to his death.

On January 19, 1999, at approximately 3:20 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured man at 88 Queen Street in Dartmouth. Responding officers found Michael laying on the bedroom floor, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The investigation revealed that Michael was last seen entering his apartment at 2 p.m. that day. Michael had moved into this apartment complex one week before his death but knew and frequently visited the previous tenant.

Investigators believe there are people who have information in relation to Michael’s death, and hope that the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It’s never too late and no piece of information is too small; it could be just what is needed to advance the investigation.

This case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program. This program offers a cash reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for this and other major unsolved crimes

At 12:56 a.m., 17 January, Halifax Regional Police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the Ultramar gas station 2816 Gottingen Street, Halifax.  Staff reported a male wearing a mask entered the store demanding cigarettes.  The suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes in an unknown direction of travel.  No one was injured, no weapons were observed.  Patrol officers searched the area, but have not located the suspect.  The suspect is described as: White male, 50’s, 5’8”, thin build, brown hair, blue eyes, beard brown and gray. Wearing: Black mask, green jacket, black sweat pants.
