Police investigate suspicious circumstances

Police are investigating suspicious circumstances that occurred yesterday morning in Dartmouth.

At approximately 8:20 a.m. a youth was walking on Ellenvale Avenue when a man got out of a vehicle that was parked on the street and grabbed the youth by the shoulder. The youth got way from the man and fled the area. The youth reported the incident to a trusted adult who contacted police.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 40s to 60s, with a long beard to his chest and wearing a black baseball hat and black clothing.  The vehicle is described as a black four-door sedan.

Pictou County District RCMP investigating post office break-ins

January 17, 2023, Salt Springs, Nova Scotia…Pictou County District RCMP is investigating after a break-in to a post office in Salt Springs.

On January 17, 2023, at approximately 8:10 a.m., Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a break-in at a post office on Hwy. 4 in Salt Springs. RCMP officers learned that the post office had been broken into overnight and mail, a parcel, stamps, keys and vehicle roof top Canada Post sign were stolen.

Canada Post doesn’t deliver to community mailboxes after regular business hours. If you see a vehicle bearing a Canada Post sign at a community mailbox at an unusual time of day, please report it immediately.

Police investigate arson

Police are investigating an arson that occurred at an apartment in Dartmouth Sunday morning.

On January 15 at approximately 5 a.m. police and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to a fire at an apartment on Renfrew Street in Dartmouth. There were no reported injuries, and the fire is being investigated as an arson.

Investigators appeal for information in relation to sexual assault

January 13, 2023, Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia… Investigators from the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are appealing for information in relation to a sexual assault that occurred last evening on Gammon Lake Dr. in Lawrencetown.

On January 12, a youth was walking near the intersection of Gammon Lake Dr. and Lawrencetown Rd. when they were approached by an unknown man. The man shouted at the youth, ran toward the youth, and then sexually assaulted the youth before fleeing in a black car, which was parked nearby.

The man is described as being white, in his late 30s to early 40s, approximately 5’9” in height with a thick build. He has two barbell piercings above his left eye. At the time of the assault, the man was wearing black pants, a black hoodie, black Nike sneakers with white lettering and a black bandana covering his mouth.

There’s no further description of the black car he was driving.

Investigators are asking anyone who may’ve seen the man in the area yesterday, or anyone with information related to this incident, to contact police at 902-490-5020. Police investigate robberies

Police are investigating two robberies that occurred in Halifax last night.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. officers responded to two separate robberies in the areas of the 1500 block of Brunswick Street and the 5400 block of Spring Garden Road. In both incidents two men, one who presented a knife and a firearm, approached a man who was not known to them and demanded his property. In both cases the suspects fled the area on foot empty-handed.

The suspect with the weapons is described as Indigenous, in his 30s to 40s, approximately 5’9” tall wearing a dark puffy jacket, dark pants and carrying a yellow backpack.

The second suspect is described as white, with a beard, wearing a brown winter jacket, brown pants and carrying a red bag.

UPDATE: Suspicious death in Five Islands has been ruled a homicide

January 12, 2023, Five Islands, Nova Scotia…The suspicious death that occurred in Five Islands has been ruled a homicide.

On January 9, 2023, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Colchester County District RCMP and Cumberland County District RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Sand Point Hill Ln. and Wharf Rd. in Five Islands. RCMP officers discovered a deceased woman inside a home on Sand Point Hill Ln. The area was secured to preserve evidence and Wharf Rd. was closed at Hwy. 2. RCMP investigators began collecting information and evidence related to the death, which was determined to be suspicious. The death has since been ruled a homicide.

On the morning of January 10, Cumberland County District RCMP officers safely took a person of interest into custody in Springhill. The person of interest was later released.

RCMP investigators remain on scene at Sand Point Hill Ln. in Five Islands and the investigation is continuing. Local residents may have observed a Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables helicopter in the area over the last two days. The helicopter was dispatched to assist investigators in locating evidence as part of the investigation.

The investigation continues to be led by the Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit, with assistance from the Colchester County District RCMP, Cumberland County District RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables and, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiners Office.

Queens District RCMP investigating mischief to Tourist Bureau

January 12, 2023, Liverpool, Nova Scotia…Queens District RCMP is investigating mischief to the Tourist Bureau in Liverpool.

On January 9, 2023, Queens District RCMP responded to a report of vandalism to the Tourist Bureau in Liverpool. RCMP officers learned that someone had vandalized the Tourist Bureau with various forms of graffiti between the evening of January 8 and early morning hours of January 9.

RCMP officers have obtained a photo of a person believed to be involved in in the incident and are releasing the photo to the public in the hopes of identifying them.

Police continue to investigate stabbing

Police are continuing to investigate a stabbing that occurred in October 2022 in Halifax and are releasing a photo of the suspect.

At approximately 10:20 p.m. on October 1, 2022, officers were in the area of Jennings and Larch streets in relation to the unsanctioned Dalhousie Homecoming events when they were approached by a 19-year-old man who had injuries consistent with having been stabbed. The man was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a man with shoulder-length brown hair, tattoos on his right arm and wearing a dark shirt with a white pattern across the back, white pants and white sneakers. Police are releasing a photo of the suspect and ask anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to come forward to police.

The incident remains under investigation by members of the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators believe there are people who may have video from the area and are asking them or anyone with information in relation to this incident to call 902-490-5020. Police investigate indecent act

Police are investigating an indecent act that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on January 9, police received a report of an indecent act that had occurred on a Halifax Transit bus traveling from the area of the intersection of Duffus Street and Novalea Drive to the Mumford Terminal. It was reported that a man had exposed himself and was touching himself in a sexual manner.

The suspect is described as white man in his 30s, approximately 5’8” tall, 170 lbs. with a beard and wearing a multi-colored jacket, jeans and brown work boots.

Police investigate assault

Police are investigating an assault that occurred yesterday in Dartmouth.

At approximately 4:35 p.m. officers responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred in a parking lot at 84 Main Street. A man in a vehicle cut off another vehicle in the parking lot. After both vehicles came to a stop, the man exited his vehicle and then proceeded to assault the other driver and hit the other vehicle with what was believed to be a tire iron. The man then fled the area in his vehicle.  The victim was treated at the scene by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 60s to 70s with a big white beard and wearing a beige jacket, beige pants and a baseball hat. The man’s vehicle is described as a gold-coloured Ford Taurus with a Nova Scotia license plate.
