Unique motorcycle stolen from basement of home

November 12, 2018, Boutilier’s Point, Nova Scotia . . . Between November 7 and November 10, a Harley-Davidson Rocker motorcycle was stolen from the basement of a home in Boutilier’s Point.

The motorcycle is unique, with a matte black finish and some grey powder coat accents. It has no chrome on it and has red lights under the gas tank. The exhaust pipes are much louder than normal Harley-Davidson pipes, and it has a thin front tire and a wide rear tire. It had Nova Scotia Licence plate 196414 attached.

November 9, 2018, South Brookfield, Nova Scotia…Queens District RCMP is asking for help to find an ATV stolen in South Brookfield.

The 2017 red Honda TRX500 went missing from a home on Echo Lodge Rd. sometime between 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 and 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 28.

Burglary in Oxford Cottage area

Sometime between 2018-11-04 and 2018-11-21 a cottage and buildings were entered in the Oxford area with and estimated $5290.00 worth of property stolen.  Stolen items range from fishing rods and reels to mounted snow tires and a generator.

Firearms stolen from residence

November 7, 2018, East Gore, Hants County, Nova Scotia . . . On November 4 at 6:11 a.m., East Hants District RCMP responded to a Break and Enter where three long guns were stolen.

The homeowner was out of the residence between 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. the previous evening. He reported to police that the three guns, including a .308 pump action rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun, and a .50 calibre muzzle loader rifle, which were properly secured in the home, were stolen. He didn’t notice the firearms were missing until the following morning. The suspect(s) are believed to have gained access to the home via an accidentally unlocked window. There was no damage to the home and no signs of forced entry. Nothing else was taken.

Armed Robbery

Masked man robs New Minas area service station

November 1, 2018, Prospect, Kings County, Nova Scotia . . . At 4:15 this morning, New Minas RCMP responded to an armed robbery call at a service station on Prospect Rd. The man, who is described as a male, approximately 30 years old, wearing a black hoodie with a face mask, black pants and gloves, was holding a handgun and told the clerk to open the safe. The clerk wasn’t able to get the safe open so the man took all of the cash from the register, stuffed it into his pockets and ran from the store, headed East towards New Minas.

No one was injured and there were no other people in the store at the time. RCMP officers flooded the area but were not able to locate the suspect. The investigation is continuing today, with an RCMP Police Dog and handler coming to the area to check for evidence, and RCMP Forensic Identification Services examine the scene. Police will also be examining surveillance video.

Homicide of Donald Downey

Police Continue to Investigate Murder of Donald Downey

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the murder of Donald Charles Downey and the HRP/RCMP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On October 30, 1988, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at 2399 Creighton Street in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers located Donald suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he died a short time later.

The investigation revealed that Donald was residing at an Abbey Road address at the time of his death, and he was known to frequent the north end of Halifax and the Uniacke Square area.

Investigators believe there are people who have information that could advance the investigation and hope the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward to police with what they know. They are urging anyone who knows something about Donald’s murder who hasn’t already spoken with police to contact the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division at 902-490-5333. Cigarettes, Loto tickets, and cash taken during break-in

October 30, 2018, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance after a break and enter took place at a business on Sackville Dr. in Lower Sackville. Sometime between 2 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on October 28, those responsible entered the business and stole a large quantity of cigarettes, loto tickets and cash.

The investigation is continuing and is being led by the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

RCMP investigating thefts from motor vehicles in Lunenburg County

October 27, 2018, Cookville, Nova Scotia…Lunenburg District RCMP are investigating a series of thefts from unlocked vehicles that occurred in the late evening and early morning hours in Lunenburg County. Recently, 12 vehicles were targeted in the Lower Branch Rd. area and a total of 43 vehicles were broken into in the Lunenburg County area since June. Numerous valuables and small items were stolen as a result.

“We want to remind people to not leave valuables in their vehicles and to lock their doors, regardless of how safe they believe their neighbourhood is,” says Sgt. Mark MacPherson with Lunenburg District RCMP. “Living in rural areas won’t deter thieves from targeting your vehicles and property.”

Police are also reminding property owners to lock their homes, garages and outbuildings and to keep items such as ATVs and power tools kept out of sight, especially overnight. Property owners can take extra steps to deter thieves such as installing outdoor lights, motion sensors or trail cameras.

RCMP continue to follow leads in a number of these thefts but are asking the public to help by being safety conscious and to report anything suspicious. Police Investigate Robbery at Cora’s on Dresden Row in Halifax

At approx. 3:11 pm Halifax Regional Police responded to a Robbery at Cora’s Restaurant, 1535 Dresden Row, Halifax. A dark skinned male, stocky build, wearing a black sweater, and a camouflage hat with a brim, entered Cora’s Restaurant and demanded cash from the register. No weapon was seen. Suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Suspect was last seen running North on Dresden Row towards Sackville St.

Police warn Cole Harbour residents of night time break-ins

October 28, 2018, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia – Halifax District RCMP is warning residents of the Colby Village area of Cole Harbour of three recent break-ins. Three homes were entered in Colby Village during the past two nights. This occurred while the residents of the homes were at home and were asleep at the time.

The suspect(s) took keys, identification, shoes, and food from the homes. No one was hurt and the RCMP is asking residents to take precautions to protect themselves. Police are reminding residents to lock their homes at night and report any suspicious activity immediately to Halifax District RCMP by calling 902-490-5020 or 911 in an emergency.

Some of the victims of these incidents contacted police several hours after they discovered them, which significantly decreases the likelihood of police being able to identify the suspect(s).

Steps to increase your home’s safety:

  • Report suspicious activity immediately to police. Consider neighborhood watch programs in your community
  • Invest in alarm systems and video security systems
  • Secure all doors and windows and ensure garage doors are kept closed and locked
  • Install timers on interior lights when you are not at home
  • Have someone look after your home when you are planning to be away for an extended absence
  • Do not place your car keys close to the door, and store them in an inconspicuous location
  • Keep remote garage door openers out of sight or hidden in your vehicle
  • Record serial numbers of valuable items
