Police charge man for four robberies

Police have charged a man in relation to a series of robberies that occurred earlier this month in Halifax.

On August 9 at approximately 6:40 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Esso Service Station, located at 7151 Chebucto Road. A man entered the service station, threatened the lone employee with a knife and left with cigarettes and an amount of money. The employee was not injured.

On August 11 at approximately 12:04 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Irving Service Station, located at 6515 Quinpool Road. A man entered the service station, threatened the employee with a knife and left with an amount of money. The employee was not injured.

On August 12 at approximately 2:51 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Irving Service Station, located at 5450 Inglis Street. A man entered the service station, produced a knife to the employee, went behind the counter and took money from the till and cigarettes from a drawer. The employee was not injured.

 

On August 13 at approximately 1:19 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Hollis Halifax Hotel, located at 1649 Hollis Street. A man entered the hotel, produced a knife to the lone employee and fled the hotel with the employee’s backpack. The employee was not injured.

Yesterday, police arrested 48-year-old Glenwood Eugene Oickle of Halifax. He is facing the following charges and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today:

  • Four counts of robbery (Section 334 of the Criminal Code)
  • Four counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public (Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code)
  • 12 counts of breach of probation (Section 733.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code)

Who are these Pictou guys?

In the early hours of July 28th, 2020 a theft occurred from a truck on Pump Rd in Pictou County and frauds were committed in various places throughout the County.

Police are looking for assistance to identify the persons of interest and the vehicle of interest.

Handgun Stolen from home in Maitland

Between December 1st, 2019 and July 8th, 2020 a 40 Caliber Smith & Wesson Handgun was stolen from a residence, Maitland, Hants County. The handgun is grey and black in color.

Police investigate Robbery in Halifax

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a robbery that occurred this morning in Halifax.

On August 13, 2020 at 1:19 a.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Hollis Hotel located at 1649 Hollis Street, Halifax. A lone male suspect entered the Hotel and produced a knife to the lone female clerk stating “I’m not going to hurt you just give me your money”. The female clerk refused to give the suspect money and he grabbed her black back pack and fled the hotel. The female employee was not injured.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 yrs old, 5’2” in height, approximately 130lbs. He was wearing a grey hoodie with the hood pulled up over his head, dark pants and a blue cloth material was covering his face.

Multiple police units attended the scene and an officer observed the suspect walking near 1877 Hollis Street carrying the female hotel clerk’s backpack.

At 1:24 a.m. the officer arrested the 48 year old male suspect who had no fixed address. The suspect was transported back to the Prisoner Care Facility and placed in a cell. The suspect will be interviewed later today by investigators regarding this robbery and other recent robberies. The investigation is in its early stages and Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are conducting the investigation.

Thefts from Vehicles

Multiple thefts from unlocked vehicles reported in Halifax RCMP area

August 12, 2020, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia… Multiple reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles were reported in Cole Harbour, Sackville and Tantallon, this morning.

Halifax District RCMP received more than 10 call from victims reporting that their unlocked vehicle was rummaged through overnight. One locked vehicle had its window broken due to valuables in plain sight.

RCMP wants to remind residents that if they want to protect themselves against theft from their vehicles, the first step to preventing that is to lock their vehicles, and remove anything of value.

Nova Scotians can also help decrease their chances of becoming a victim of property crime by participating in the #9PMRoutine on social media. RCMP warns public about phone scams requesting a SIN 

August 12, 2020, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia… The Nova Scotia RCMP is warning the public about a number of phone scams being reported throughout the province.

The phone calls involve someone calling from 1-800 numbers, local numbers and the RCMP toll-free number (1-800-803-7267) and saying that there are issues with the individual’s Social Insurance Number (SIN). The caller then says the person will be arrested if their personal information is not provided. The callers of these scams say they are calling from a specific federal agency and request the individual’s name, date of birth and SIN.

Police are advising anyone who receives a call asking for their Social Insurance Number, or any personal or financial information, to request a name and a call-back number and verify the institution requesting the information.

Anyone who suspects they have been targeted in a phone scam is encouraged to contact their local police, and also the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Theft of boat and trailer from St. Bernard

On July 26th, 2020 a theft occurred of a boat and trailer from  Riverside Road, Saint Bernard.

The boat trailer is described as a silver Ex Hauler model 1715R with  with Nova Scotia license plate:
T447258.

The boat is homemade white in color. Name on the boat is Finest kind. The boat had also a 90HP
Honda Four Stroke outboard motor.

A white Chevrolet pickup truck was seen in the area.

Charges laid in Colchester for drugs and weapons

Multiple charges laid, drugs and weapons seized in Colchester County

 August 6, 2020, Colchester County, Nova Scotia…An eight-month investigation by police in Colchester County has led to two people being charged with drug and weapons offences.

On July 30 and 31, the Colchester RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) with assistance from Truro Police Service and New Glasgow Regional Police, searched nine properties in Bible Hill, Truro, Kemptown, Greenfield and Harmony. Police arrested 16 people and seized cocaine, methamphetamine, hashish, cannabis, two firearms, ammunition, brass knuckles, a Conductive Energy Weapon (CEW) and cash.

 

Two people were charged with the following:

 

Michael George Borden, 65, of Truro, is charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of Trafficking x 3
  • Prohibited to Possess Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling

Robert Lawrence Borden, 56, of Harmony, is charged with:

  • Possession of Firearm while Prohibited x 2
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

“This investigation is an excellent example of proactive policing in Colchester County,” says S/Sgt. Curtis MacKinnon, Colchester District RCMP. “Using a variety of investigative techniques, officers worked together to ensure that dangerous drugs were kept out of our communities.”

Michael Borden and Robert Borden are scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Court on August 6. Other individuals arrested are scheduled to appear in Truro Provincial Count on October 7, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.

East Tremont man charged in multiple separate historical sexual assaults

East Tremont man charged in multiple separate historical sexual assaults

August 5, 2020, Kings County, Nova Scotia… Kings District RCMP has laid multiple sexual assault charges in separate incidents in Kings County and is reaching out to the community, in the event there are additional victims.

Jakob Mark Fardy, 22, of East Tremont, has been charged with five counts of Sexual Assault in relation to incidents that occurred in Kings County between 2015 and May 2020. Fardy is also being charged with three counts of assault in relation to these allegations. There have been five victims identified who are now in their twenties.

The investigation is ongoing in partnership with Kentville Police Services.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and want the public to know that the police can help. Digby man charged on sex assault/sexual interference charges

Digby man charged on sexual assault and sexual interference charges

August 4, 2020, Digby County, Nova Scotia… Digby RCMP has laid sexual assault charges Terence Elvis Roy Hiltz, 39, of Digby County and is reaching out to the community, in the event there are additional victims.

Hiltz has been charged with four counts of Sexual Assault, three counts of Sexual Interference,

Assault and Unlawful Confinement. Three victims have been identified and these charges are in relation to incidents that occurred in Digby County between 1995 and 2020.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and want the public to know that the police can help. Anyone who feels they could be a victim, or has questions, is encouraged to contact the Digby RCMP at 902-245-2579.

Hiltz was released from police custody on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Digby Provincial Court on August 26 at 9:30 a.m.
