Police Onscene for a Weapons Complaint

Police investigate shooting update:


Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Halifax last night.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. last night police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of the 3000 block of Federal Avenue. Officers located an 11-year-old girl in a residence who had been struck by a bullet. The youth was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The residence and an unoccupied parked vehicle were also struck.

Investigators are expected to remain on scene throughout the day. There is no suspect information at this time and we do not have any information to suggest the youth was targeted. Any information, no matter how small, is what could be needed to further advance the investigation.

The investigation is in its early stages and police are asking anyone with information about the incident or video from the area to contact police.

Police are currently on scene in the 3000 block of Federal Avenue, Halifax for what has been reported as a person shot.
Police received a 911 call at 9:19 P.M. from persons reporting hearing gunshots. It was quickly learned that a person was reported as being struck by gunfire.
Onscene, police located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. EHS attended and treated the victim, transporting them to the hospital for what are undetermined injuries at this stage of the investigation.
There is no immediate threat to the general public, nor any ongoing safety concerns to be aware of.  Citizens will notice an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues. 
Members of the Patrol Division, General Investigative Section, K-9 and Forensic Identification Section are continuing these efforts.

There is no suspect description at this time.
