Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. police responded to a robbery that occurred at the Plaza Grocery Rite Stop at 1864 Albemarle Street. A man entered the store, told the employee that he had a gun and demanded cash. The man fled the area on foot with a quantity of cigarettes and cash. The employee was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’8″ tall, with a medium build and spoke with an Irish accent. He was wearing a black paisley bandanna, a black and yellow baseball hat, a brown hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black and white sneakers.

Police are onscene at Boland Road and Cairn Street in Dartmouth regarding a weapons complaint.
At 6:55 p.m. police received a call to report a person was injured by another man with an edged weapon.
A number of police officers are on scene completing the investigstion. There is no threat to public safety.  We ask members of the public to use alternate routes and avoid the area of Boland Road and Cairn Street in both directions to allow officers to conduct the search and investigation.  
A man was located onscene and determined to be the victim. He has been transported by EHS to the hospital with what are undetermined injuries at this point in time.

Police have cleared and are no longer onscene at the above location. This concerns an earlier release made this evening.
The victim is in hospital where he remains, for what are described as non life threatening edged weapon injuries.
At this time there are no suspects and no description is available.
The matter is under investigation by the Criminal Investigative Division.

May 15, 2022, Pictou Landing, Nova Scotia… Pictou County District RCMP is investigating a break and enter involving a theft of firearms, an RV and ATV from a property on Shady Ln. in Pictou Landing.

On May 13, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a home on Shady Lane. in Pictou Landing. Officers learned that numerous firearms were taken, including:

·         Smith & Wesson Silver .22 caliber handgun;

·         Ruger single action .22 caliber handgun;

·         Browning .300 Winchester rifle with a dark wood finish;

·         Savage 12-gauge pistol grip shotgun.

Other items taken from the residence include a black Stack-On firearms safe, a 60” television, a fridge, a small utility trailer and a significant quantity of hunting and fishing gear.

Two vehicles, a 1999 Dutch Star Motorhome bearing the Nova Scotia camper plate 41 140, a blue Honda FourTrax ATV, were also taken from the property.

RCMP believe that the suspect gained access to the home between May 5 and May 13. 

The investigation is ongoing and is being lead by the Pictou County District RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section, the RCMP police dog services and the National Weapons Enforcement Team.

May 13, 2022, Bedford, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance to identify a man in relation to a hit and run near exit 1H of the Hwy. 101/102 interchange in Bedford.

On May 12, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a collision involving two vehicles near exit 1H of the Hwy. 101/102 interchange in Bedford. Officers learned that a white Mack transport truck travelling towards Bedford on Hwy. 101 and an older model grey Honda Civic, which was merging on Hwy. 101, collided near exit 1H.

The Honda Civic fled the scene. The driver of the Civic is described as a white man with a beard. There was also a child, who is believed to be a girl, seated in the Civic’s rear passenger seat. The Civic sustained significant damage to the driver side of the vehicle.

The driver of the transport truck was not injured and the investigation is ongoing.

Halifax District RCMP is asking for information from anyone who may have been on Hwy. 101 leading up to the collision and saw the grey Honda Civic, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision. UPDATE: Digby RCMP seeking to identify vehicle in fire investigation

May 19, 2022, Bear River First Nation, Nova Scotia…Digby RCMP is seeking to identify a vehicle as part of an investigation into a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 13, Digby RCMP and Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation. Upon arrival at the scene RCMP officers observed the building was fully engulfed and the fire department working on extinguishing it. Once the fire was extinguished it was determined that the building was a total loss. Digby RCMP is currently working with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall’s office to determine the cause.

RCMP investigators are seeking to identify a vehicle in order speak with the occupant(s) as they could have potentially been witnesse(s). Investigators are releasing a short video showing the vehicle driving near the area at the time the fire occurred.

May 13, 2022, Bear River First Nation, Nova Scotia…Digby RCMP is investigating a fire that occurred overnight on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. this morning, Digby RCMP and fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation. Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers observed that the building was fully engulfed and the fire department were working on extinguishing it.

Once the fire was extinguished, it was determined that the building was a total loss. RCMP officers and firefighters examined the scene to attempt to gather evidence. Based on the evidence collected, it is possible that the fire was suspicious in nature. RCMP officers have secured the scene and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

No one was present in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Halifax Regional Police is investigating four break and enters that occurred this week in Halifax.

Three of the incidents occurred on May 10. At approximately 12:45 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at BP Corner News at 1903 Barrington Street. Two men broke into the store, stole merchandise and fled the area on foot. The first suspect is described as wearing a dark-coloured jacket, pants and sneakers. The second suspect is described as wearing a brown or beige jacket, dark-coloured pants and sneakers.

At approximately 2:55 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at Griffin’s Smoke Shop at 1120 Queen Street. A man broke into the store, stole tobacco products and fled the area. The man who broke into the store is described as white, wearing all black clothing, white and black shoes, a blue surgical mask and blue latex gloves. At the time of the incident a dark red SUV was observed leaving the area, driver described as a white man in his thirties and wearing a mask.

At approximately 3:25 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at the Superstore Smoke Shop at 1075 Barrington Street. The suspect(s) damaged the front doors but did not enter the store. No suspect description is available at this time.

On May 11 at approximately 3:25 a.m. police responded to a break and enter at Jubilee Junction convenience store at 6273 Jubilee Road. Two men broke into the store, stole merchandise and fled the area on foot. The first suspect is described as wearing a black hoodie with a white Crooks and Castles logo on the front, black pants, a face mask and a grey backpack. The second suspect is described as a white man wearing a mask, a black hoodie with white writing down both sleeves, black pants, black gloves and carrying a black garbage bag.

The investigations are ongoing, and at this time, it is not known if these incidents are connected.

Today marks the thirteenth anniversary of the murder of Tanya Jean Brooks and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

Tanya was found deceased beside the former St. Patrick’s-Alexandra School on Maitland Street in Halifax on May 11, 2009 at 2:17 p.m. Investigators were able to trace her movements until approximately 9 p.m. on May 10 and they urge anyone who witnessed anything in the area of the school around that time to contact police.

Investigators believe Tanya knew her assailant(s) and that there are people who have information that could help solve her murder. We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Tanya’s family will be hosting a memorial walk in her honor on Monday, May 10 at 1 p.m. from police headquarters at 1975 Gottingen Street to the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre at 2021 Brunswick Street.

Tanya’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

May 6, 2022, Berwick, Nova Scotia…Kings District RCMP is investigating after an armed robbery occurred at a bank on Commercial St. in Berwick.

On May 5, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that had just occurred at a bank on Commercial St. in Berwick. Kings District RCMP members from Kingston, New Minas and Wolfville Detachments, along with members of the Kings District RCMP General Investigation Section, Valley Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit and RCMP Police Dog Services, responded.

Investigators learned that a man had entered the bank, brandished a weapon and demanded cash from an employee. The man was given a sum of cash and he then fled the bank on foot. No one was injured during the incident.

The man was described as white, 5’8” tall and a slim build. The man’s hair was described as dark, with a receding hairline and a buzz cut. The man was wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans.

RCMP officers conducted numerous patrols throughout Berwick, with assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services, however the man was not located.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. police responded to a robbery in-progress at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 6025 Almon Street.  A man entered the store and stole merchandise. He threatened the employees when they approached him and then fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as white, approximately 5’5″ tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a grey jacket, camouflage pants, a hooded sweater and a black medical mask.

Police are investigating an arson that occurred at a school in Bedford over the weekend.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. police and Halifax Fire and Emergency responded to a fire at the Bedford South School located on Oceanview Drive. Suspect(s) broke a window and set a fire inside one of the offices causing extensive damage.

A man and a woman, who were described as white and in their forties, were seen leaving the area in a black truck at the time of the incident.
