RCMP seeking public’s help following suspicious fires

August 10, 2018, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia… Cumberland District RCMP is asking for the public’s help to identify individual(s) who may be responsible for several structural fires in Cumberland County.

Since February 2018, there have been reports of approximately 10 fires at unoccupied properties in the Collingwood area and beyond. The majority of the properties were destroyed or resulted in a significant amount of damage. Cumberland District RCMP is working with partners at local fire departments to investigate the incidents.

“These fires take up a lot of resources and we’re concerned that someone will eventually get hurt,” says S/Sgt. Craig Learning with Cumberland District RCMP. “Investigations of this nature can be complex and difficult to solve so we’re really hoping someone out there knows something and will come forward.”

On August 11, 2018 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to the 1100 block of Old Sambro Road, Harrietsfield to assist with traffic while Halifax Regional Fire Service responded to a structure fire. The commercial building was not occupied at the time and no one was injured. There was significant damage to the building as a result of the fire.

Overnight the Halifax Regional Fire Service Investigators notified Police that the cause of the fire was believed to be arson. The Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is in the early stages of their investigation.

August 10, 2018, Glenholme, Nova Scotia … Prior to 8:30 p.m. last evening, Colchester District RCMP received a complaint of a hit and run that took place in the parking lot of a business in Glenholme.

An older model, black extended cab Ford F-150 truck struck a parked, unoccupied Chevrolet Equinox, causing damage to the vehicle. The suspect vehicle left without notifying the owner of the damage.

Colchester District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance with identifying the driver of the vehicle, who also had a female passenger in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The investigation is continuing.

August 13, 2018, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is investigating the use of stolen credit and debit cards at several businesses in the Lower Sackville area. These incidents occurred during the month of July.

July 31, 2018, Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter in to a business in the 900 block on Windgate Rd. in Beaver Bank on Monday morning. Sometime between 11:00 p.m. on Sunday evening and 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, suspects entered the business and stole a safe that contained an undisclosed amount of money.

RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Halifax Regional Police K-9 assisted with the investigation. The investigation is continuing and is being led by the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

July 30, 2018, Whites Lake, Nova Scotia … Halifax District RCMP is investigating a theft of an ATV from a home on Prospect Rd. in Whites Lake. The owner had parked the ATV behind their home around 4 p.m. on Friday and returned home on Sunday to discover it had been stolen. No key was left in the ATV`s ignition. Investigation has determined that the ATV was stolen around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning as a neighbour heard the ATV driving inbound on Prospect Rd. at this time.

The ATV is a 2017 Honda Rubicon TRX 500. It`s red in colour, with fender guards and a winch on front.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help in solving a break enter and theft which occurred in Sheet Harbour NS.

Sometime overnight of July 27th and 28th, 2018 the Ice Cream Shop was broken into.  Items taken included an air conditioner, small amount of cash and containers of ice cream.

July 22, 2018, Goodwood, Nova Scotia‎…Halifax District RCMP would like to speak with a man in relation to an ongoing investigation.

On Saturday evening at approximately 9:30 p.m., the man was driving ‎a silver or grey Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck near the intersection of Prospect Rd. ‎and Big Indian Rd. in Goodwood, close to the gas station in the area. ‎The truck had half back doors and black Chevrolet emblems.

The driver is described as having a light to medium complexion and appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s with a short black buzz cut and bags under his eyes.

On July 21^st at 5:29am a call was received of a vehicle fire in the area of the 40 block of Leaman Dr, Dartmouth.  The fire spread to a house that was adjacent the vehicle.  Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded.  The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries.

HRP is currently treating the fire as suspicious and the an investigation into the fire is currently ongoing with HRFE.  HRP is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed anything relating to the fire to contact Halifax Regional Police. or Crime Stoppers
