Look out for Glass Eel poachers

Elvers, also known as Glass Eels, are juvenile American eels that have matured into the third stage of their lifecycle where they hatch from eggs in the Sargasso Sea, eventually making their way to inland waterways (rivers and streams) along the Atlantic Coast of North America as transparent small worm-like eels.

This fishery is closely monitored and managed but the opportunity for illegal activity remains a concern.

The Conservation and Protection Branch of The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is asking the public with any information about illegal elver fishing to call Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip at 1 800 222 8477 or leave a tip at: crimestoppers.ns.ca  or via the p3 App.
