Kings District RCMP arrest two people and seize guns following complaint to police

May 21, 2020, Waterville, NS . . . On the afternoon of May 18, Kings District RCMP were called to an address on Black Rock Road in Waterville, to investigate a complaint of illegal possession of firearms. When police arrived on scene, they saw a man run into the woods and recognized him as the property owner. Kings District RCMP members contained the area in an attempt to locate the man, and requested an RCMP dog and handler provide assistance. RCMP officers seized one firearm from an occupant of the home, and arrested the 31-year-old woman from Whites Corner for Unsafe Storage of Firearms and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. She was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on September 1.

RCMP officers and the Police Dog located a second firearm and ammunition a short distance from the home in a wooded area. At 3 p.m. on May 19, the male who had run from police the day before was located and arrested by the RCMP. The 34-year-old man from Waterville, was released on conditions and is facing charges of Unsafe Storage of Firearms and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. He is scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on September 1.

Police looking for Halifax robbery suspect

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a robbery that occurred in Halifax on April 6, 2020.

At approximately 1:44 a.m. police received a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Irving gas station located at 15 Fairfax Drive. A man entered the store and demanded money. The man threatened staff members and said he had a knife, but none was seen. The man then fled on foot towards Parkland Drive with an amount of money, a small safe and cigarettes.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20’s, 5’8”, medium build, with buzzcut-style blond hair. He was wearing a black, hooded windbreaker jacket and had a blue/green medical mask covering his face.

Homicide of Leon Anthony Adams- Halifax

Police continue to investigate the murder of Leon Anthony Adams

Today marks the 15-year anniversary of the murder of Leon Anthony Adams and homicide investigators in the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

At 4:20 a.m. on May 22, 2005, police responded to a report of an injured person in a residence at 6025 Lady Hammond Road in Halifax. Upon arrival, they discovered Leon lying in a hallway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation has revealed that Leon had been home earlier in the evening on May 21, 2005. It’s believed that he left the residence for a brief period sometime after midnight before returning to his home, where he was shot.

Investigators believe that there are people who have information that could help solve his murder. We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Prince District RCMP is requesting assistance in identifying a male robbery.
Between 22:00 – 22:30 hours on 2020-01-31, a 21- year old female pulled her car to the side of the road,
due to a mechanical problem, along Route 10 in Central Bedeque, PE. She reported to police that while there, a second vehicle stopped and a male offered assistance. The male then began assaulting the female with a metal object and attempted to rob her. The male fled in his vehicle as another vehicle approached. The male was described as being in his 20s, approximately 5’6” tall and had a all cap and wearing a hoodie . His vehicle was described as a small red 4-door car. PEI Experiencing More Fentanyl Cases

PEI police agencies are reporting a recent increase in fentanyl related occurrences and seizures. A Public Health alert was issued on 2020-05-08.
Drugs seized from a suspected overdose on 2020-05-05 tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine. Two other non-fatal overdoses were also suspected to be associated to fentanyl. Samples from other recent occurrences have also tested positive. An envelope in the mail contained a white substance (ion testing identified cocaine and fentanyl). In the
other case  50 imitation Percocets  tested positive. These pills are consistent with previous reports of fentanyl in PEI.

A recent US-based report indicates traffickers may be adding fentanyl to cocaine and heroin to strengthen the potency to attract more business.

PEI last issued a Public Health alert regarding fentanyl in May 2018 following an overdose. The sudden rise in cases is of concern for both public and officer safety. These confirmed cases reiterate the need for law enforcement to be prepared for any potential contact by carrying Naloxone and using the recommended level of care and caution when dealing with, or seizing any unknown substances.

Nova Scotia and other Atlantic provinces who initially seemed to escape the scourge of fentanyl and methamphetamine in larger Canadian cities have now seen an increase in cases of fentanyl and methamphetamine . These drugs are extremely harmful and devastating to families.

Break & Enter, West Chezzetcook

May 21, 2020, West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is investigating a break, enter and theft of tools in West Chezzetcook.

Between 10 p.m. on April 30 and 7:30 a.m., on May 1, a garage and enclosed trailer at a property on Nova Ln. were broken into. A large number of construction tools were stolen. The stolen tools included four orange Bostitch spikers (air nailers), an orange Bostitch airgun for foam, a compressor, two yellow and black Dewalt radios, a yellow and black Dewalt skill saw with a greay 60 volt Dewalt battery, a Dewalt chop saw, a Dewalt table saw, a blue and black 6000 Watts Hyunday generator, two 100-feet air hoses, two orange small Paslode air guns in cases and a silver Tapco siding brake with stand and special attachments.

Police investigating multiple new reports of thefts from vehicles

Halifax Regional Police is investigating multiple reports of thefts from vehicles that occurred over the last month.

Since April 21, Halifax Regional Police received 88 reports of thefts from vehicles throughout the region.

Police are reminding people to:

  • Lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially in plain view. Make sure to take your wallet/purse with you when you leave your vehicle
  • Leave outside lights or motion sensors on.

The investigations into these incidents are ongoing and we encourage anyone who had property stolen from their vehicle to report it to police. If your license plate is stolen report it to police immediately.

Missing Person, Tantallon

Police continue to investigate the disappearance of Michael Leo Brown 

May 20, 2020, Tantallon, Nova Scotia . . . Police are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Michael Leo Brown, 49, who was last seen in Tantallon on May 2. Brown is described as white, 5-foot-6, and 155 lbs. He has black hair and hazel eyes.

Investigators have received tips and information from the public, however, have still not located him. Police are concerned for Brown’s well being and would like anyone who has information to contact them.

When someone goes missing, it has deep and far-reaching impacts for the person and those that know them. We ask that people spread the word through social media respectfully.

The matter is being investigated by the RCMP/ HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, VICE unit. Shots Fired, North Preston

Police investigate shots fired

May 13, 2020, North Preston, Nova Scotia…The Integrated RCMP/HRP Criminal Investigation Division is investigating two separate incidents of shots being fired in the community of North Preston.

On May 11 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of gun shots being heard on Cain St.

On May 12 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Halifax District RCMP received a report of gun shots being heard near Cain St. and Clarence St.

Preliminary investigation located one home with minor damage, no injuries have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Arson, Kings County

RCMP investigate arson

May 13, 2020, North Kentville, Nova Scotia… Kings District RCMP is investigating an arson that occurred on McKittrick Rd. in North Kentville.

At 9:45 p.m. yesterday, Kings District RCMP and Kentville Fire Department responded to the scene of a home that was on fire. Preliminary information received indicated that a man was inside and may have weapons. No one was located inside the home. The investigation determined the fire to be suspicious in nature.

No one was injured as a result of the fire and the investigation is ongoing.
