Police continue to investigate the murder of Jason Smith

December 16, 2021, East Preston, Nova Scotia … Today marks two years since the murder of 45-year-old Jason Smith of East Preston.

Just before midnight on December 15, 2019, police were called to Dartmouth General Hospital because a 45-year-old man had been brought in with suspicious, life-threatening injuries. The man later succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation determined that Jason Smith was a victim of a shooting that took place at a home on Brooks Drive in East Preston. The investigation is ongoing, led by Special Investigation Section of the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

RCMP investigating suspicious incident

December 15, 2021, Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia…Colchester County District RCMP is investigating a suspicious incident where a woman chased a child after he got off a school bus in Lower Onslow.At approximately 2:20 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police received a complaint of a boy who had been chased by a woman after he got off a school bus on Cottam Dr. in Lower Onslow. Police learned that when the boy got off the bus, a black 4-door pickup truck began following him. A woman then got out of the passenger side of the truck and chased after the boy for a short distance. The boy managed to run to his home. The woman did not say anything during the interaction.

The truck has additional identifiable features including a plow mount with no plow, a back-rack in the bed of the truck and dark tinted windows.

RCMP investigating home invasion in Millbrook

December 15, 2021, Millbrook, Nova Scotia…Millbrook RCMP is investigating after a home invasion on Coach Rd. in Millbrook.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. yesterday, police responded to a report of a home invasion on Coach Rd. in Millbrook. Police learned that a man and woman were home when they heard a knock at the door. The woman answered the door and two men carrying firearms entered the residence. The two suspects stole items from the home and then fled.

No one was injured during this incident and police do not believe this be a random act.

Police investigate three assaults with a sensory irritant

Police are investigating three assaults where a man sprayed three separate women with a sensory irritant last evening in Halifax.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., police received a report of an incident that had occurred 15 minutes earlier in the 1700 block of Market Street. A man approached a man and a woman in a parkade and sprayed a sensory irritant at the woman. The suspect fled the area on foot.

At 6:07 p.m. police responded to two additional incidents that had just occurred where a man had sprayed a woman with a sensory irritant. One incident occurred in the area of Market and Sackville streets and the other occurred on Prince Street between Barrington and Grafton streets. In both incidents, the man sprayed the sensory irritant at the woman as he walked past her.

The suspect is not known to the victims and is described as a white man, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black parka with beige fur around the hood, jeans and a dark colored face mask. In the last two incidents, he appeared to be listening to loud music playing from his phone.

Police investigate shots fired

Police are investigating a report of shots fired that occurred earlier this week in Dartmouth.

On December 6 police received a report of a bullet hole in a window of a residence in the 100 block of Prince Albert Road. Officers located a hole in a window and what appeared to be a bullet in the ceiling of the residence. It is believed that the incident occurred sometime between the evening of December 5 and 7:30 a.m. on December 6. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

Police investigate two robberies

Police are investigating two separate robberies that occurred in Halifax last evening and this morning.

Yesterday at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at the Griffins Smoke Shop at 2561 Windsor Street. A man with what appeared to be a firearm came into the store and demanded cigarettes. The suspect fled the area on foot with a number of cartons of cigarettes in a reusable shopping bag. The cashier was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’10” tall with a medium build and dark-colored eyes. At the time of the incident, he was wearing light blue jeans, a red hooded sweatshirt with a white logo on the sleeve, black gloves and a mask.

Today at approximately 4:45 a.m., officers responded to a robbery at the Irving gas station at 5450 Inglis Street. A man with a knife came into the store and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery tickets. The suspect fled the area on foot with an amount of cash, cigarettes and tickets in a reusable shopping bag. The cashier was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 30-40 years old, 5’8” tall, 170 lbs. with scruffy facial hair. At the time if the incident he was wearing black jogging pants with one leg tucked into a white sock, a green hooded sweatshirt and black shoes.

Police request assistance in identifying assault suspects

Police are requesting assistance in identifying a group of men in relation to an assault that occurred in Halifax yesterday.

On December 5 at approximately 2 a.m. police responded to a report of a group of men assaulting two other men in the area of Prince and Grafton streets. One of the men who had been assaulted was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. All the suspects had fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.

The suspects are all described as men in their twenties. Police are releasing six photos of the suspects who are believed to be involved in this incident.

Police investigating theft of trailer and construction materials from business

Police are investigating the theft of a trailer and construction materials from a business in Dartmouth that occurred last month.

On November 17 police received a report of a theft that occurred on November 3 at Metro Roofing located at 95 Akerley Boulevard in Dartmouth. A trailer that was loaded with approximately $35,000 worth of tools and construction materials was stolen.

Police are releasing photos of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident. The vehicle is described as a 2016 Dodge Ram truck.
