Police charge two people with drug trafficking and weapons offences

April 11, 2025, Pictou, Nova Scotia… Police have charged two people with drug trafficking and weapons offences after executing a search warrant in Pictou.

On April 3, 2025, the Pictou County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU) executed a search warrant at a residence on Welsford St. as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. A man and a woman were safely arrested inside the home.

Officers searched the residence and seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, cash, a firearm, a machete, mobile devices and tools, which are believed to have been stolen

Jennifer Anne Stevenson, 40, and Chad Andrew Thomson, 34, both of Pictou are each charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (methamphetamine)
  • Careless Use of Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (2 counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (2 counts)

Stevenson and Thomson were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on July 7.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by PCISCEU with assistance of Pictou County District RCMP, Antigonish/Guysborough Street Crime Enforcement Unit and RCMP Police Dog Services.

Search warrant execution leads to seizure of fentanyl, fluorofentanyl

April 3, 2025, Three Brook, Nova Scotia… Police have charged three people and seized synthetic drugs after a search warrant execution in Pictou County.

Pictou County Integrated Street Crimes Enforcement Unit (PCISCEU) began an investigation related to a suspicious package being moved by courier. Investigation found that the package contained illicit, synthetic drugs with a delivery address in Three Brooks.

After the package was claimed, the PCISCEU executed a search warrant at an identified address on Three Brooks Rd.

During the warrant execution, which took place on March 27, officers safely arrested four people, seized fentanyl and fluorofentanyl, and recovered an enclosed trailer that was found to have been reported stolen.

Three people are facing charges related to this investigation:

  • Jake Bruce Murphy, 34, of Three Brooks, has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl) and Failure to Comply with Undertaking (three counts);
  • Rebecca Lynn Pitts, 48, of Three Brooks, has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl);
  • Merissa Ann Sutherland, 34, of Pictou, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Failure to Comply with Undertaking (two counts).

The three were released by police on conditions pending a court appearance on June 23, 2025, at Pictou Provincial Court.

The fourth person arrested was released without charges.

Fentanyl is a potent opioid pain reliever and is 20 to 40 times more potent than heroin. More information about the dangers of fentanyl is available from Health Canada.

The investigation is ongoing and is assisted by Eastern Region Federal Serious and Organized Crime (FSOC), Nova Scotia RCMP Synthetic Drugs and Scenes Unit, Antigonish/Guysborough Street Crimes Enforcement Unit, and Pictou County District RCMP.

New Glasgow Regional Police ask for the public’s assistance to solve theft of a Honda Generator

New Glasgow Regional Police is asking for public’s assistance to locate a stolen generator.

On August 1st NGR police received a report that a Red Honda Generator model # EU3000IS was stolen from a residence on Caroline Street Trenton. Police determined the theft took place on between the evening hours of 9:00p.m. on Sunday July 31 into early Monday morning August 1st  at 9:00 a.m.

The generator is described as  Red Honda Generator model # EU3000IS  serial number 812076.

The owner of the generator is United Rentals.

Road Rage, Pictou County

December 23, 2020, Kenzieville, Nova Scotia…Pictou District RCMP is asking for public help to identify a man involved in a road rage incident last evening on Hwy. 104., in Kenzieville.

Last evening at approximately 7 p.m., Pictou District RCMP received a call about a disturbance on Hwy. 104. After arriving at the scene, police were told that a man in a truck passed a vehicle and slowed down to a stop in front of it. The driver got out of the truck, picked up an object from the back of the truck and hit the victim’s windshield with it twice. The man said nothing and returned to the truck to continue driving in the same direction.

Pictou District RCMP would like to identify the man involved in this incident. His vehicle is described as a black pickup truck. The man is described as white, approximately 6-feet tall and was wearing a blue hat.

Suspicious Death, Stellarton

RCMP and Stellarton Police investigating suspicious death

June 16, 2020, Stellarton, Nova Scotia . . . At 10:40 p.m. on June 15, Stellarton Police responded to a call of an injured male at a home on Maple St. Police arrived on the scene and found the injured man, who was taken by EHS to hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

After speaking with witnesses, members of Stellarton Police then located a deceased man in a nearby home. The RCMP’s Northeast Nova Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Units were called in to assist with the investigation.

Both males involved in this incident were known to one another and this was not a random act. Stellarton Police Service is being assisted by the RCMP in this investigation, which is in its early stages. Police are being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to determine the cause of death. Stabbing in Pictou County

 July 8, 2019, Merigomish, Pictou County, Nova Scotia . . . Today at 3:30 a.m., Pictou District RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in Merigomish. When they arrived at the scene, police located a 30-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The suspect, a 37-year-old man from Thorburn, fled the scene on foot into a wooded area nearby. An RCMP Police Dog and handler were called to the area to assist in locating the suspect. He was located by the dog and arrested without incident.

The suspect was assessed by EHS for non life-threatening injuries then transported to Pictou District Detachment for holding. The victim was transported by EHS to hospital for serious but non life-threatening injuries. The suspect is known to the victim and this is not considered to have been a random act. The suspect is being held in custody pending a court appearance in Pictou Provincial Court later today.

The matter remains under investigation by Pictou County RCMP. Police file # 2019989769 refers.

Theft of $30,000 of tools in Pictou County

May 22, 2019, Pictou County, Nova Scotia . . . On May 13, Pictou District RCMP responded to a report of a theft of tools from a utility trailer that had been parked at a cottage lot on MacKenzie Rd. in Black Point, which is about 14 km East of Pictou Landing. The trailer was last seen around noon on Sunday May 12, and the theft was discovered the following morning around 9 a.m. The locks on the trailer had been cut, and nearly all the tools were gone. Various carpentry tools nearly all of which were ‘Dewalt’ brand were stolen, including Dewalt-brand table, reciprocating and skil saws, a number of 18, 20 and 60-volt Dewalt batteries, a 4000 and 7500-watt generator, extension cords, aluminum work benches, step ladders, and other smaller hand tools and items. The value of the stolen tools is nearly $30,000.

March 27, 2019, Pictou, Nova Scotia… Pictou County District RCMP is seeking assistance from the public regarding a break and enter which occurred at an unoccupied building, located on Patterson St. in Pictou.

On March 22, 2019 at approximately 10 a.m., Pictou County District RCMP attended a complaint of a break and enter to an unoccupied building on Patterson St. The suspect(s) made entry by breaking the glass on the rear doors and broke several other windows inside the building.

Break & Enter, Pictou

On August 17th 2018 , 2 masked males wearing camouflage clothing entered a home in Pictou with the male resident inside. The lone occupant was not injured and the males left with $500 cash and an undetermined amount of medical marijuana.

RCMP investigate assault with a weapon

 September 17, 2018, Linacy, Pictou County, Nova Scotia … At approximately 7 p.m. on September 16, Pictou District RCMP responded to an assault with a weapon at a home on Merigomish Rd. in Linacy. When police arrived, they were advised that an 18-year-old man had been stabbed several times by another unknown man. The suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle driven by a third man. The victim also departed the scene prior to police arrival.

RCMP officers located the suspect vehicle a short time later and arrested the 23-year-old driver and 31-year-old passenger, for Assault With a Weapon. Both men remain in custody. The victim was located earlier today and police verified that he sustained stab wounds to his upper body, and he was offered medical treatment.
