Today marks the thirtieth anniversary of the disappearance of Leslie Anne Katnick and investigators with the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

On November 4, 1991, Leslie was reported missing to police in Montreal. Leslie had been living in Montreal, Quebec, until November 1, 1991, which was the last time she was seen by either friends or family.

Investigators determined that Leslie had been registered at the Halifax YMCA from November 2 to November 4. Leslie’s bank card was also used in Halifax on November 2.

Investigators believe there are people who have information about Leslie’s disappearance and urge these people to come forward and share anything that they remember, no matter how small the detail.

It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation. Anyone with information about Leslie’s disappearance is asked to call police at 902-490-5020.

Leslie’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. Callers must contact the Rewards Program at 1-888-710-9090, must provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Dartmouth.

On November 3, 2021 at approximately 9:15p.m. police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 111 Highway and Exit 3 near Burnside Drive, Dartmouth. The investigation is in the early stages, however there is no indication that anyone was injured during the incident.

Police are currently in the area processing the scene. At this time, there are no injuries associated with the event, but a vehicle was struck by what appears to be gunfire from another vehicle.

Police are investigating an assault that occurred in Halifax last week.

On October 31 at approximately 2:30 a.m. police received a report of assault that had just occurred in the 1000 block of Beaufort Avenue. The victim, a 26-year-old man, had left the area prior to officers arriving on scene. He was treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers believe there are people who have information that could assist the investigation and would like to speak with anyone who was in the area between 2:20 a.m. and 2:40 a.m. on October 31.

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred this weekend in Halifax.

On October 31 at approximately 1:30 a.m. police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at an apartment building on Montgomery Court. A man sprayed a pizza delivery driver with a sensory irritant and stole money and personal belongings from him.

The suspect is described as a white man, heavy set, approximately 6’ tall with a lot of wrinkles on his forehead. At the time of the incident, the man had a bandana-type neck mask over his face and was wearing a shirt and jeans.

November 2, 2021, Saulnierville, Nova Scotia…Meteghan RCMP Detachment is investigating three thefts of heat pumps from properties in Saulnierville and Belliveau’s Cove.

On October 20, police received a report of an attempted theft of a heat pump compressor from a property on Amirault Rd. in Saulnierville. Police learned that the compressor had been sitting on a table behind the home on the property. A person had stolen the table but was not successful in stealing the heat pump compressor.

On October 22, police received a report of a break-in to a home on Saulnierville Rd. in Saulnierville. Police learned that during the break-in the heat pump head that was inside the home was stolen. The heat pump compressor outside of the home was also taken.

On October 27, police received a report of a theft of a heat pump compressor from a property on Hwy. 1 in Bealliveau’s Cove. Police learned that the compressor had been located outside of a church on the property.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking that anyone with information on these incidents contact the Meteghan RCMP Detachment at 902-645-2326. November 2, 2021, West Amherst, Nova Scotia…Cumberland County District RCMP is investigating the theft of an encased RCMP badge that belongs to a retired RCMP officer.

On October 21, police received a report of a theft from a storage locker on Tupper Blvd. in West Amherst. Included in the storage locker were a number of household items and an encased RCMP badge that belongs to a retired RCMP officer.

The badge is gold in colour and is encased in an acrylic plastic case.

November 1, 2021, Pine Grove, Nova Scotia…Today marks 1 year since the death of Donnie Lohnes of Pine Grove.

On October 25, 2020, 57-year-old Donald (Donnie) Derrick Lohnes was attacked near a home on Jippie Ave. in Pine Grove.

On November 1, 2020, Donnie died from the injuries he sustained during the attack. His death was determined to be a homicide.

Investigators continue to believe that an additional altercation that occurred on the same day may be related to the homicide. This additional altercation took place in the Dufferin St. area in Bridgewater between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

On October 30th at approximately 7:30 p.m. police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Ruben Court and Roleika Drive, Dartmouth. The investigation is in the early stages, however there is no indication that anyone was injured during the incident. The incident is not believed to be random.  Police are currently in the area processing the scene. Investigators are working to determine if this event is related to another shooting in the area last night.

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Dartmouth.

On October 29th at approximately 7:50 p.m. police responded to a report of shots fired in the 0-100 block of Roleika Drive.  Witnesses reported that the suspect appeared to be shooting at people in another vehicle in a parking lot adjacent to an apartment building.  The vehicle that appeared to be targeted left the parking lot and at this time there is no indication that anyone was injured. Another unoccupied vehicle in the same parking lot sustained damage from the bullets. 

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’5, thin build wearing dark clothing. The suspect fled on foot after the incident and has not been located.

October 29, 2021, Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for the public’s help to solve an assault that occurred yesterday evening in Middle Sackville.

At approximately 7 p.m. on October 28, a woman was walking on Hazel St. in Middle Sackville and was assaulted as she came around the corner of Alan St. The person spun the woman around and she was struck in the face.  The woman fell to the ground but was able to get up and run away.  The person did not speak or try to chase her.  The person is described as a larger figure.
