Police investigate theft of firearm and ammunition

Police are investigating a break and enter where a firearm was stolen earlier this month in Halifax.

On November 16 police received a report of a break and enter that had occurred at an apartment building in the 6100 block of Young Street in Halifax. A firearm and ammunition were stolen from a storage room in the building. It is believed that the theft occurred in the evening of November 14.

Investigators are looking for a suspect who is described as a white man in his 20s to 30s, approximately 5’9” tall with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a black and grey plaid jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt, a grey toque and black pants.

UPDATE: Suspicious disappearance now being investigated as a homicide

November 29, 2023, Big Bras D’Or, Nova Scotia…The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating the suspicious disappearance of a woman in Big Bras D’Or as a homicide.

On November 22, 2023, Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of a possible homicide at a home on Old Route 5 in Big Bras D’Or. RCMP officers learned that Natacha Leroy, 48, had disappeared and the circumstances around her disappearance were suspicious. The home on Old Route 5 was secured by RCMP and Cape Breton Regional Police officers. The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.

On November 24, human remains were found in Big Bras D’Or by RCMP Police Dog Services. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide and, on November 29, the remains were confirmed to be those of Natasha Leroy.

The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit is continuing to liaise with Natacha’s family and supports are being offered.

The investigation is continuing and is being supported by the Cape Breton Regional Police Service, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, the Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit and the Victoria County District RCMP Unit.

Halifax District RCMP investigate stabbing

November 26, 2023, Lake Echo, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is investigating after a stabbing in Lake Echo.

On Saturday, at approximately 2:00 p.m., police and EHS responded to a report of a stabbing of a 47-year-old woman at a residence on Bumpy Lane in Lake Echo. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for life-threatening-injuries.

Police learned the victim was stabbed at the residence the previous evening. Investigators do not believe this act to be random. No arrest has yet been made.

The investigation is ongoing and led by the Integrated RCMP/HRP General Investigation Section (GIS) of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Police investigate multiple hit and run incidents

Halifax Regional Police is investigating multiple reports of hit and runs that occurred in Dartmouth early this morning.

At approximately 2 a.m. officers responded to a report a hit and run in the area of the 0-100 block of Pleasant Street. Officers located multiple vehicles in that area that had been heavily damaged.

Officers located an abandoned front-end loader equipped with a snowplow in the area. Investigators believe that it was the vehicle involved in the hit and runs. The front-end loader had been stolen from the parking lot of the Dartmouth Sportsplex earlier in the evening.

Anyone who believes their vehicle was damaged in relation to the incident and has not already spoken to police is encouraged to call and report it. Antigonish County District RCMP is investigating a hate-motivated mischief in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

November 23, 2023, Antigonish, Nova Scotia… Antigonish County District RCMP is investigating a hate-motivated mischief that occurred in Antigonish.

On October 8, 2023, Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of vandalism on a sidewalk on Church St. in Antigonish. RCMP officers learned that someone had spray painted a racial slur and derogatory graffiti on the sidewalk. The graffiti has since been removed.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators believe that the incident was motivated by hate.

Police continue to investigate the murder of Ryan Michael Nehiley

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the murder of Ryan Michael Nehiley and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On November 23, 2018, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Halifax Regional Police officers responded to a weapons call in the 0-100 block of Clovis Street in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers found Ryan inside his residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital where he died. Investigators believe that Ryan was shot inside his residence and that more than one person was involved in the offence.

Investigators believe there are people who have information that could help solve Ryan’s murder. We are asking anyone with information who has not already come forward to do the right thing and contact police at 902-490-5020. What may seem like a small detail could be the key to progressing the investigation.

Police continue to investigate the murders of Gail Stone and Richard Marriott

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the murders of Gail Stone and Richard Marriott and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On November 20, 1998, at approximately 9:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at 15 Parkmoor Avenue in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers found both Gail Stone and Richard Mariott inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds. Richard was deceased and Gail was transported to hospital where she died four days later.

Richard was last seen at approximately 9:15 p.m. driving a maroon-coloured Dodge Caravan on Dutch Village Road. It is believed he arrived home at approximately 9:30 p.m.

It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation. Anyone with information about Richard and Gail’s murders is asked to call police at 902-490-5020.

Police investigate two suspicious fires

Halifax Regional Police is investigating two suspicious fires that occurred in Dartmouth last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. officers and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency were called to a fire outside of an apartment building on Primrose Street. A garbage dumpster had been set on fire behind the building. The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.

While on scene a second fire was located in a garbage dumpster behind another apartment building on Albro Lake Road. The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators are looking for a suspect who is described as a man, approximately 5’11” tall, 170 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweater, blue jeans, a light-coloured toque and dark sneakers with white soles.

Annapolis District RCMP investigating home invasion

November 20, 2023, Port Royal, Nova Scotia…Annapolis District RCMP is investigating a home invasion that occurred at a home on Parker Mountain Rd. in Parkers Cove.

On November 17, 2023, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Annapolis District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Parker Mountain Rd. in Parkers Cove. RCMP officers learned that woman was in her home when she heard a banging noise at the back door. The woman observed a man on the deck and he told her that he needed to get into the house but, the woman refused to let him in. The man then smashed the window in the door and entered the home. The woman fled the home through the front door, went to a neighbour’s home and called 911. The man fled the home prior to the arrival of RCMP officers. RCMP Police Dog Services attended, however the man could not be located.

RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the home and conducted forensic examination of the scene. The investigation is continuing.

Help Police solve hit and run

Police are investigating a hit and run that occurred in Halifax this weekend.

On November 18, at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of the 1700 block of Barrington Street. A vehicle travelling on Barrington Street was struck by another vehicle, as it was going through the intersection at Prince Street. The hit vehicle struck a parked car and then collided with a business on Barrington Street. The driver of the run vehicle did not stop and proceeded West on Prince Street. There were no reported injuries.

The run vehicle is described as a dark colored SUV.
