Digby RCMP investigating fire on the Bear River First Nation

UPDATE: Digby RCMP seeking to identify vehicle in fire investigation

May 19, 2022, Bear River First Nation, Nova Scotia…Digby RCMP is seeking to identify a vehicle as part of an investigation into a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on May 13, Digby RCMP and Fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation. Upon arrival at the scene RCMP officers observed the building was fully engulfed and the fire department working on extinguishing it. Once the fire was extinguished it was determined that the building was a total loss. Digby RCMP is currently working with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall’s office to determine the cause.

RCMP investigators are seeking to identify a vehicle in order speak with the occupant(s) as they could have potentially been witnesse(s). Investigators are releasing a short video showing the vehicle driving near the area at the time the fire occurred.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. this morning, Digby RCMP and fire responded to a report of a structure fire on Reservation Rd. on the Bear River First Nation. Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP officers observed that the building was fully engulfed and the fire department were working on extinguishing it.

Once the fire was extinguished, it was determined that the building was a total loss. RCMP officers and firefighters examined the scene to attempt to gather evidence. Based on the evidence collected, it is possible that the fire was suspicious in nature. RCMP officers have secured the scene and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

No one was present in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
