Police Investigate Arson – Bedford

At 11:15 p.m., on the 1st of March, Halifax Regional Police and HRM Fire & Emergency responded to a fire alarm inside an apartment building at 201 Rutledge Street Bedford.  Multiple callers reported smoke inside the building.  Numerous tenants evacuated the building.  HRM Fire & Emergency located a fire in a stairwell and quickly extinguished it.  No one was injured and all tenants were able to return to home.

Fire Investigators confirmed the fire was intentionally set and the arson investigation has been turned over to police.  The investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing.  Police will remain on scene for the Forensic Identification Section to process the scene in day light.
