 August 17, 2019, Willowdale, Pictou County, Nova Scotia . . . Pictou District RCMP remain on the scene of a fatal house fire in Willowdale, Nova Scotia.

At 5:55 p.m. yesterday, Pictou District RCMP responded to a call of a house on fire on Hwy 347 in Willowdale. Police arrived and were met by East River St. Mary’s Volunteer Fire Department already on the scene. The main level of the residence had collapsed into the basement of the structure and a vehicle parked near the residence was completely damaged by the fire. The RCMP is in the preliminary stages of their investigation and can confirm the remains of one person were located inside the residence.

One lane of the highway was closed until 11 p.m. last night and we are asking that you avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Pictou District RCMP with assistance from the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshall.

Police look to speak with driver in vehicle/cyclist collision

 Halifax Regional Police are looking to speak with the driver involved in a motor vehicle/cyclist collision that occurred earlier this month in Halifax.

On August 10 at approximately 1 p.m. police responded to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist in the 3200 block of Devonshire Avenue in Halifax. Both the vehicle and the cyclist were headed southbound on Devonshire Avenue when the cyclist changed lanes in front of the vehicle and was struck. The cyclist, a 30-year-old woman from Halifax, was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene after the collision and police are looking to speak with the driver. The vehicle is described as a silver four-door BMW sedan. The vehicle was driven by a woman and believed to have children in the rear seat at the time of the incident.

Police charge third man in relation to shooting

 

Investigators in the Integrated General Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Division have charged a third man in relation to a shooting that occurred on August 9 in Halifax.

On August 9 at approximately 12:35 a.m. police responded to a report of possible gun shots in the area of Spring Garden Road and Dresden Row in Halifax. Officers arrived on scene and confirmed that a shooting had taken place. Shortly after the initial call, at 12:40 a.m., officers located and arrested two male suspects inside Royal Artillery Park in Halifax. A Police Service Dog conducted a track and located a handgun inside Royal Artillery Park.

At 1:20 a.m. that same night police were advised that a 27-year-old male victim, with a non-life-threatening gun shot wound, had arrived at the QEII Hospital.

Jayree Vontaze Downey, 18, of Dartmouth appeared in court today to face the following charges in relation to this incident:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose contrary to Section 88(1) of the criminal code
  • Carrying a concealed weapon contrary to Section 90(1) of the criminal code
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the criminal code
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to Section 92(1) of the criminal code
  • Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been tampered contrary to Section 108(1)(b) of the criminal code
  • Possession of a loaded firearm contrary to Section 95(1) of the criminal code
  • Resist arrest contrary to Section 129(a) of the criminal code
  • Attempt murder contrary to Section 239 of the criminal code
  • Accessory after the fact contrary to Section 463(a) of the criminal code

Thieves steal rifles from Heatherton Break & Enter

Between 2019-08-02 and 2019-08-04, three rifles were stolen from from a break and enter to a residence in Heatherton, NS. Thieves stole the following rifles:

– Winchester 30-30, Model 94

– Lakefield 22 mag. lever action

– Winchester 32 Special

Missing Person

Police continue to investigate disappearance of Kimberly McAndrew

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of Kimberly McAndrew and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On August 12, 1989 at 4:20 p.m. 19-year-old Kimberly Ann McAndrew left the Canadian Tire store at 6203 Quinpool Road in Halifax where she was employed as a cashier. There were unconfirmed reports that Kimberly was last seen at the Gardenia Flower Shop in Penhorn Mall in Dartmouth. She was identified by an employee at the flower shop as having bought a balloon and a rose. At the time of her disappearance, Kimberly was wearing pleated navy slacks, a white short-sleeved “Esprit” t-shirt with red and green squares, a navy oversized cardigan, and jade green flat-heeled loafers.

 

Investigators believe that there are people who have information about what happened to Kimberly. We hope the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and share what they know with police. It’s never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what’s needed to progress the investigation into Kimberly’s disappearance.

Police Investigate Weapons Call (Shooting) – Halifax

At approximately 12:35 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of possible gun shots in the area of Spring Garden Road and Dresden Row, Halifax.  Officers arrived on scene and confirmed a shooting had taken place.

A number of officers are currently on scene, including K-9, and Forensic Identification members and traffic is closed along Spring Garden and adjacent streets. We ask that people avoid the area.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages and further information will be released when available.

UPDATE:

Shortly after the initial call at 12:40 a.m., officers did locate and arrest two male suspects (26 and 31 yrs) inside Royal Artillery Park, Queen Street Halifax.  A Police Service Dog conducted a track and located a handgun also inside Royal Artillery Park.

At 1:20 a.m., the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital contacted police advising a male victim (27 yrs) with a non-life-threatening gun shot wound arrived at the hospital.

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are conducting the investigation.  Investigators believe the suspect’s and victim are known to one another.  Investigators and are actively searching for a third male suspect that was not located.  The suspect is described as:

Suspect – Black Male, 25-30 yrs., hair in braids, wearing a blue shirt.

August 8, 2019, West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia… Between August 1 and August 4, someone drew offensive words and symbols on the base of a statue in front of a church in West Chezzetcook.  The church is located on Hwy. 207.

Shelburne RCMP reaching out to public to identify witnesses

August 1, 2019, Shelburne, Nova Scotia . . . The RCMP in Shelburne is requesting assistance from the public as they investigate an assault that took place on July 27 in Shelburne.

The incident occurred on the Roseway Trail between King St. and Wright’s Rd. between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. This trail is frequently used by cyclists and walkers and police are hopeful that someone who was in the area at the time can provide some information to assist with the investigation.

Of particular interest to police is information about someone riding a blue bicycle along the trail, and in addition information about an assault or struggle between a man and a woman. The incident is believed to have occurred on the Roseway Trail near Minto St. Carleton St., or Digby St.

Help identify robbery suspects

August 1, 2019, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is asking for public help to identify the suspects in a robbery that happened yesterday afternoon in the 100 block of Stokil Dr. in Lower Sackville.

At 1:45 p.m. yesterday, Halifax District RCMP received a report of a robbery that had taken place in the 100 block of Stokil Dr. at approximately 1:15 p.m. The victim, a 16-year-old teen was approached by two teens wearing bandanas and baggy black jeans. One of the suspects held a half pair of scissors to the victim’s neck and demanded everything he had. The victim gave the suspect some cash and a vape stick before fleeing on his bike.

One suspect is described as white male, approximately 15-years-old and wearing a yellow shirt, black baggy jeans and a yellow bandana. The second suspect was wearing a bandana and black baggy jeans.

Home broken into while victim outside gardening

July 31, 2019, Elmsdale, Nova Scotia . . . On July 25 between noon and 2 p.m., a woman was outside working in her garden and noticed that while she was outside in the yard, someone had broken into her home. The suspect took $500 and some jewelry. The building was not secured while the homeowner was outside.
