Rocks thrown from overpass damage passing vehicles

June 13, 2021, Lantz, Nova Scotia… East Hants RCMP is asking for assistance from the public after rocks were thrown from an overpass on to passing vehicles.

Just after 12 a.m. on Saturday, June 12 East Hants RCMP received three 911 calls in relation to vehicles being damaged after they were struck by rocks that were thrown from the new over Pass on highway 102 in Lantz. Immediate patrols by RCMP did not result in locating any suspects who targeted vehicles travelling in both the southbound and northbound lanes.

Although no one was injured, the damage was significant and the outcome could have been much worse.

RCMP charges Little Harbour man for dangerous operation following dispute

June 10, 2021, Little Harbour, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP has charged a man for dangerous operation of a conveyance following a dispute on the water in Little Harbour.

On May 16, police were notified of a dispute in Little Harbour around 5 a.m. that morning. Investigation determined that the incident had occurred on the water between two vessels. A man on the first vessel had been yelling at a person on the second vessel. The first vessel proceeded to follow the second vessel, and was sailing erratically, almost causing a collision. A line from the first vessel got caught in the propeller of the second vessel, which cause the second vessel to lose power and drift towards a rock ledge. Eventually, the jam was cleared and the second vessel was able to sail to safety.

On May 19, Colin Scott Mckay was located and released on condition to appear in court at a later date.

On May 25, police were notified that Mckay had breached his conditions by having contact with the man from the second vessel.

Colin Scott Mckay is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and Breach of Undertaking. He is schedule to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 30.

RCMP responds to armed robbery

June 9, 2021, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia… At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Yarmouth Town RCMP responded to a complaint of an armed robbery at a convenience store on Main St. in Yarmouth.

Upon arrival, RCMP confirmed that a man had entered the store, made a purchase and then approached the employee behind the counter. The man showed the employee a knife and took cash from the register. The man left the store on foot. No one was physically injured as a result of this incident.

The man is described as being just under 6 feet tall, of slender build, and approximately 30 years old. He was wearing jeans, a dark-coloured hoodie and a cloth mask.

Police investigate suspicious circumstances in Dartmouth last week

Police are investigating two incidents of suspicious circumstances that occurred in Dartmouth last week.

On June 4 police received two reports of suspicious circumstances that had occurred in two different neighborhoods involving a vehicle with a similar description.

On June 2 at approximately 1 p.m. a white Hyundai Elantra with tinted windows was seen on Barry Allen Drive. The driver appeared to be looking at children playing in the area. When a woman moved toward the vehicle, it quickly left the area.

On June 3 at approximately 8:30 p.m. a vehicle followed a 12-year-old child who was riding a bike in the area of Everette and Franklyn streets. The vehicle was seen turning onto Pleasant Street and left the area in an unknown direction of travel. The vehicle was described as a newer model white four-door car, possibly a Hyundai Elantra, with tinted windows. The vehicle was being driven by a man described as being white and heavyset.

Investigators are looking to speak with the man in the vehicle or anyone who may have information in relation to these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. A Business Break and Enter occurred at Jeddore Variety Store on 2021-04-25 at 0200 hours. The lone suspect took cigarettes and was driving a grey Dodge Calibre.

RCMP seek information on two suspicious incidents in Lower Sackville

June 5, 2021, Lower Sackville, NS… Halifax District RCMP is investigating two suspicious incidents of males approaching youth in the Lower Sackville area.

On June 4, just after 11:00 a.m., members of the Lower Sackville Detachment responded to local a Junior High school, after it was reported an unknown male had approached one of the students at recess and requested they come with him. The male left when the youth said no. Extensive patrols of the area were made by responding officers, but the male was unable to be located.

Later that same day, just before 8:00 p.m., the Lower Sackville Detachment were contacted about an unknown male who had approached two children at a park near Westpoint Drive in Lucasville. The male had tried to get one of the children to come with him. The children were able to leave the park and report to a parent.  Again, extensive patrols of the area were made, but the male could not be located.

The first male is described as being in his 20s, bearded, with tanned skin and dark hair in a bun with a blue or purple streak in it. The male was wearing a black face mask, a black hoodie, and pants with flames on them.

The second male is described as approximately 30-years-old, wearing a black beret, a black coat, and blue jeans.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and the two incidents are not believed to be linked, at this time. Halifax District RCMP would like to speak to these two persons of interest regarding the circumstances of the interactions.

Police continue to investigate murder of Carla Gail Strickland

Today marks the thirtieth anniversary of the murder of Carla Gail Strickland and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On June 5, 1991, at 12:58 p.m., police responded to a report of person who was believed to be deceased along the north side of Lake Mic Mac adjacent to Highway 118 in Dartmouth. The victim was identified as Carla Gail Strickland and the Medical Examiner Service determined her death to be a homicide.

The investigation revealed that Carla had spent the evening of June 2, 1991, celebrating a friend’s birthday at a popular Halifax club. She then went to Albro Lake Beach in Dartmouth with three other people where they stayed until dawn when Carla was dropped off at the Tim Horton’s on Wyse Road in Dartmouth. This was the last time Carla was seen.

Investigators believe that there are people who have information that could help solve Carla’s murder. We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

RCMP investigates mischief to boat launch

June 2, 2021, Mount Denson, Nova Scotia…West Hants District RCMP is investigating mischief to a boat launch off Schurman Rd. in Mount Denson.

On December 21, 2020, the West Hants District RCMP received a report of nails being placed on the boat launch off Schurman Rd. in Mount Denson. Police attended the area and located 2-inch nails on the boat launch. On May 18, 2021, West Hants District RCMP received a second complaint of nails being placed on the boat launch.

Help Pictou County Police Identify Burglars at Tow Yard

On May 31st, 2021 Pictou County RCMP responded to a B&E at Tri County Towing, 554 MacLellan’s Brook Rd., Pictou County. The police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects involved in this break and enter who broke into a secured compound and stole items from a vehicle.

Police Investigate Break & Enter into business – Bedford

At 1:40 a.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to a Break & Enter at the Esso gas station located at 1505 Bedford Highway, Bedford.  Officers discovered the door of the business was damaged and forced open.  Two suspects fled in a blue pickup truck prior to police arrival with an undisclosed amount of cash in an unknown direction of travel.  No one was injured.  Patrol officers searched the area, but have not located the suspect or vehicle.  

The suspects are described as two white males wearing dark hooded shirts and jeans.
