October 18, 2019, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia…RCMP Halifax District is investigating a robbery that occurred tonight at 6:59 p.m. at a store in the 200 block of Sackville Drive.

A lone male entered the store, wearing a bandana over his face and demanded money from the clerk. No weapon was seen but the suspect had his hand in his pocket as if he had a firearm. The male then fled the store on foot after taking money. Patrols were made in the area and a police service dog was called in, but the suspect was not located.

The male is described as white, approximately 5’8″, thin, early 20’s, brown eyes, wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.

The investigation is ongoing and is currently being investigated by the Halifax Integrated General Investigative Section, which is composed of members from the RCMP and HRP.

October 16, 2019, Waterville, Nova Scotia…Kings District RCMP is requesting public help to solve a break and enter into a residence in Waterville between August 12 and August 27.

Between August 12 and August 27, a residence on Thompson Road in Waterville was broken into. Those responsible entered the residence and stole a safe that contained an undisclosed amount of money. Some of the money is believed to be Belizean, Honduran and Mexican currency.

October 15, 2019, Lake Echo, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is investigating a report of a gunshot in Lake Echo and is asking the public for information.

On October 14 at approximately 9:15 p.m., Halifax District RCMP received a complaint of a gunshot in the 200 block of Circle Dr. Preliminary investigation was unable to determine if a shot was fired.

October 15, 2019, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia… RCMP are reminding the public to take precautions when posting ads on Kijiji and other social media platforms after receiving recent reports of sellers being threatened by potential buyers.

The Nova Scotia RCMP has received a number of reports where females in the Halifax area had posted ads on Kijiji about prom dresses for sale and were subsequently contacted by a man who was interested in the prom dresses. The man, after expressing interest in the prom dresses, asked the sellers for personal information, including address and phone number, and then made threats toward the victims.

If you are posting items for sale on social media, please keep the following safety tips in mind: don’t provide potential buyers with personal information, including your address or phone number, avoid posting photos that may provide details or your identity and address, and when completing the transaction, meet in a public place where they are many people around.

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at a bank in Dartmouth this afternoon.

At approximately 1:20 p.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the Scotiabank at 91 Portland Street in Dartmouth. A man entered the branch, indicated to the teller that he had a knife and demanded money. The man left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot.

The suspect is described as white man, 40-45-years-old, 5’5″, average build, approximately 155 lbs., wearing a brown woolen cap, with his face covered, dark clothing, yellow gloves and black shoes.

Thanksgiving weekend- time to close up the cottage

 

October 10, 2019, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia . . . The upcoming long weekend is often a time when families gather to share a special meal. It is also often a time when cottage owners close up their seasonal homes. Frequently, break and enters to these types of properties are committed as crimes of opportunity. Cottages are often located in isolated areas, with decreased chances of criminal activity being noticed. Nova Scotia RCMP would like to offer some tips to help reduce the chances these properties of being targeted by would-be thieves:

 

– Remove all valuables from your cottage (including firearms);

– Lock / secure all doors and windows;

– Ensure all windows are covered by closing curtains or blinds;

– Ensure all out buildings (e.g., garage or shed) are secured. Remove valuables;

– Don’t leave tools and items outside that could be used to break into your cottage. This includes ladders;

– Ensure that your cottage is visited on a regular basis. Consider using a trail camera;

– Ensure your property is well lit, with motion sensors and timers on lights.

 

Additionally, cottage owners are encouraged to install an alarm system with a local contact person if you don’t live nearby. Cottage owners might also consider forming a ‘cottage watch’ program with other cottage owners to ensure the properties are checked periodically throughout the off-season.

 

“By making it difficult for would-be thieves to break into your cottage, you’re effectively discouraging them’ says Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke. ‘The more time it takes them to get into your cottage, the higher the risk they will be seen by someone and that’s not a risk they want to take.”

 

The RCMP will always check with neighbours if a break-in occurs in an area. We encourage community members to call to report suspicious activity and help to reduce property crime. Taking note of details such as a vehicle description, a license plate number, or a description of a driver can be a big help and lead to the recovery of stolen property and charges against those responsible.

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a robbery that occurred earlier today in Dartmouth.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. police responded to robbery that just occurred at the Scotiabank located at 91 Portland Street in Dartmouth.

A man came into the bank jumped the counter and took cash from the teller. There were no weapons seen and there were no injuries reported. The man fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s. At the time of the incident he was wearing sunglasses, a black hat, green camouflage jacket, jeans and carrying a black duffle bag.

October 7, 2019, Canning, Kings County, Nova Scotia . . . On October 6 at approximately 3 a.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a structure on Main St. in Canning. The fire spread and caused extensive damage to neighbouring properties and businesses. Local Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the scene and extinguished the fire. Police requested assistance from the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal to attend the scene and examine the evidence. No one was injured.

Police have determined the fire is suspicious. New Glasgow Regional Police asking for public assistance to locate a 4 door-white Sedan, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

The New Glasgow Regional Police is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 4-door white Sedan that failed to stop for officers at a checkpoint on the Westside of New Glasgow on September 22^nd 2019 at approximately 12:25 a.m.. The sedan was travelling westbound on Munroe Avenue when the vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle when the Sedan collided with the front driver’s side of the other vehicle as it was initiating a turn into a driveway.

The Sedan at the time would have sustained substantial damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle

Help RCMP solve tool theft from construction site

October 4, 2019, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia… Halifax District RCMP is requesting public help to solve a theft of tools from a construction site in Cole Harbour that happened between 7 and 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., a person noticed that tools were missing from the container they had been stored in. The tools were seen at 7 a.m. that same morning.

Items missing include a gasoline GX160 Mikasa Tamper, a 14 inch H760 Husqvarna cut off saw and a yellow and black Wacker jumping jack.

Police would like to speak to a man seen in the area at the time of the incident. He is described as a black man with a lighter complexion, in his 20s to 30s. He was wearing an orange vest and driving an older black GMC 2500 (2005 to 2010). The vehicle is described as having small amber light on the roof and the driver’s door handle broken off.
