Victoria County District RCMP investigating stolen firearms, requesting public assistance

May 28, 2025, Bay St. Lawrence, Nova Scotia… Victoria County District RCMP is investigating a break and enter in Bay St. Lawrence involving the theft of firearms.

On April 15, Victoria County District RCMP received a report of a break and enter believed to have occurred the day before at an unoccupied seasonal property on Bay St. Lawrence Rd. Through the investigation, officers determined that three firearms, a 12-gauge shotgun, 30-30 rifle and 303 rifle, were among the items taken. The guns were stored in a locked cabinet, which was damaged in the incident, and all included trigger locks.

Yarmouth Rural RCMP seeking information after shots fired in Hebron

May 27, 2025, Hebron, Nova Scotia… Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment is seeking information in relation to shots fired in Hebron.

On May 27 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment received a report of shots fired at a residence on Greenville Rd. The incident resulted in damage to the home.

There were no reports of injuries.

As part of the ongoing investigation, officers would like to hear from anyone with surveillance video or doorbell cameras showing Hwy. 1 (south from Greenville Rd.) and Main St. in Yarmouth between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on May 27. The investigation is being led by Yarmouth Rural RCMP Detachment with support from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and RCMP Police Dog Services.

Police continue to investigate the murder of Leon Anthony Adams

Today marks the 20-year anniversary of the murder of Leon Anthony Adams and homicide investigators in the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continue to investigate the case.

At 4:20 a.m. on May 22, 2005, police responded to a report of an injured person in a residence at 6025 Lady Hammond Road in Halifax. Upon arrival, they discovered Leon lying in a hallway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased. 

The investigation has revealed that Leon had been home earlier in the evening on May 21, 2005. It’s believed that he left the residence for a brief period sometime after midnight before returning to his home, where he was shot.

Investigators believe that there are people who have information that could help solve his murder. With the passage of time, investigators encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

Investigators ask anyone with information about Leon’s murder to contact police at 902-490-5020.

Leon’s case is part of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program which offers cash rewards of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for specified major unsolved crimes. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

Help Enfield RCMP locate Stolen blue Chev Cruze

On Saturday March 29th Enfield RCMP received a complaint of a stolen blue 2012 Chevrolet Cruze with NS maker GTN 587.  The vehicle was stolen near Andy Hayes Road / Hwy 236 between 2025/03/27 and 2025/03/29.

Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit seizes fentanyl, charges woman

May 12, 2025, Upper Nappan, Nova Scotia… The Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) seized quantities of illicit drugs and charged a woman as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

On May 5, the Cumberland County Integrated SCEU, with assistance of Cumberland County District RCMP, executed a search warrant at a property on Hwy. 2 in Upper Nappan as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

Officers safely arrested a woman and seized quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine (crystal and tablets), oxycodone, cocaine, prescription drugs, unstamped cannabis and cash. Officers also seized a conducted energy weapon and drug paraphernalia.

Toni Cree Loppie, 51, of Upper Nappan, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (seven counts)
  • Possession of Unstamped Cannabis
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon knowing Possession Unauthorized
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

Loppie was released from custody by the court and is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial Court on July 7 at 9:30 a.m.

RCMP investigators release video in effort to solve 40-year-old fatal hit and run

May 21, 2025, Pictou, Nova Scotia… The Pictou County District RCMP is continuing to investigate the fatal hit and run of  Anthony Gerard Burke and is appealing for anyone with information to come forward by releasing a video featuring his story.

On March 27, 1985, at approximately 9:48 p.m., 29-year-old Anthony (Tony) Burke was killed when he was struck by a vehicle near 97 Wellington St. in Pictou. Burke had been at a gathering with friends at a home on Wellington St. After an altercation in the home, Burke left the residence on foot.

A passing motorist witnessed the incident and attended to Burke, who succumbed to his injuries and died at the roadside. The witness described a blue car, possibly an AMC Gremlin, as being involved. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and never returned.

“We have reason to believe the car may still be somewhere in the province, and we’re retesting exhibits we seized at the time using the modern technology available to us now,” says Cst. Daniel Ronaghan, investigator with the Pictou County District RCMP General Investigative Section. “These steps will help, but we’re releasing this video too, hoping someone will come forward with information that answers outstanding questions about what happened to Tony.”

RCMP arrests two people involved in assault in Eastern Passage

May 21, 2025, Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia… RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested two people for assaulting fishers in Eastern Passage.

On May 4, at approximately 7 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of an assault in progress near Cow Bay Rd. in Eastern Passage. On arrival, officers found two people with serious injuries and arrested two other people – one youth and one man. Police also seized several items used as weapons in this assault, including fishing hooks and a metal pipe. The incident occurred while the victims were fishing for gaspereau.

The victims were transported to hospital by EHS, one with life-threatening injuries.

The youth had a first court appearance and remains in custody, facing four charges including aggravated assault.

The 39-year-old man, from Cow Bay, was later released on conditions. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 10, 2025, to face a charge of assault.

This incident is still under investigation. Police are aware of allegations that this was a hate-motivated crime or hate-motivated incident based on information provided by witnesses. The RCMP takes incidents of hate with utmost seriousness and condemns all hate-motivated incidents, and may follow up with further charges as is necessary based on the ongoing investigation.

Joel Gibson – wanted

May 15, 2025, Kings County, Nova Scotia… Kings DistrictRCMP is seeking information on the whereabouts of a man currently wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant.

Joel Mathew Gibson, 44, from Kings County, is wanted for Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.

Gibson is described as 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
