During the early morning hours of July 2, 16 vehicles were broken into in the areas of the 600 to 800 block of the Bedford Highway and Rutledge Street in Bedford.

The investigations into these incidents are ongoing and we encourage anyone who has had their vehicle broken into or property stolen from their vehicle to report it to police by calling 902-490-5016 or at our online crime reporting site. If your license plate or government identification is stolen, report it to police immediately.

Police are reminding people to not leave valuables in vehicles. In the month of June HRP, received 184 reports of thefts from motor vehicles throughout the HRP territory.

Whether you are parked in a driveway, parkade, parking lot or on the street, following a few simple steps may make your vehicle less attractive to would-be thieves:

• Always lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway or garage.
• Make sure to take your wallet/purse with you when you leave your vehicle.
• Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially in plain view.
• Don’t leave your garage opener in your vehicle.
• Consider leaving outside lights or motion sensors on during the night.
• If possible, park in well-lit, well-traveled areas.

July 2, 2021, Windsor, Nova Scotia…West Hants District RCMP is investigating three arsons that occurred on July 1 and 2 in Windsor.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on July 1, RCMP received a report of a “Save the Lake” sign on fire on Hwy. 1 in Falmouth. When police arrived, the fire was already out. While investigating the source of the fire, police discovered the same sign on the other side of the lake on fire. Police immediately attended and put the fire out. The signs were seized for further investigation.

At approximately 1:25 a.m. on July 2, RCMP received another report of a sign on fire on Wentworth Rd. Police attended and put the fire out. The sign was seized for further investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and West Hants District RCMP asks that anyone that was in the area of these fires at the times they were set, or anyone with information on these incidents, call them at (902) 790-2207. July 2, 2021, North Preston, Nova Scotia . . . Police are currently on scene and investigating a report of shots fired this afternoon in North Preston.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. today, Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of shots fired hitting a residence on Cain St. No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

June 30, 2021, Sipekne’katik First Nation, Nova Scotia…The Indian Brook RCMP is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred on June 30 on the Sipekne’katik First Nation.

At approximately 4:20 a.m., the Indian Brook RCMP were called to a structure fire at a church in Sipekne’katik. Upon arrival, the local fire department and police noted that the fire was localized to the south side of the church. The fire was put out by the local fire department and police began their investigation. No one was injured in the fire.

Investigators have determined the fire to be suspicious in nature and are working with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a robbery that occurred this afternoon in Hakifax.
Just after 1:30 p.m. on June 30, officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Scotia Bank at 3480 Dutch Village Road, Halifax. A man entered the bank demanded money and indicated he had a weapon, but none was seen by witnesses. The man received a sum of cash and fled the bank on foot. Patrol officers attended but didn’t locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 40’s, approximately 5’5 with a heavy build. He was wearing a dark hoodie, khaki cargo pants and black sneakers, carrying a black bag with flowers on it.

Today marks the fortieth anniversary of the murder of Vincent “Hank” Pius Griffin and the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.

On June 30, 1981, at approximately 8:05 a.m., police responded to a report that there was a vehicle left running in front of 2454 John Street in Halifax with a man slumped across the front seat. Officers found 43-year-old Vincent Griffin deceased in his vehicle. Vincent’s vehicle, a maroon 1977 dodge two-door hardtop, had been observed in the area shortly after midnight.

Investigators believe that there are people who have information that could help solve Vincent’s murder. We hope that the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.

The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.

June 25, 2021, Stewiacke, Nova Scotia…Colchester County District RCMP is investigating a number of thefts from vehicles in Stewiacke.  

In the early morning hours of June 24, 2021, a number of thefts were reported from unlocked vehicles in Stewiacke. A white Dodge Journey SUV, Nova Scotia licence plate GGJ 382, was also stolen and has not yet been recovered. Police are requesting assistance in identifying two suspects. One suspect i n the black hoodie was noted to have hand and neck tattoos.    

The RCMP would like to remind the public to lock their homes and vehicles, and to keep valuables out of sight.

June 23, 2021, Black Point, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is investigating three break and enters in Black Point and Hubbards.

Between June 19 and June 21, suspect(s) damaged a door to a home on Fryday Rd. in Black Point. Entry was gained, and an electric bike was taken from a locked shed in the yard. The bike is a blue Hyper Electric 700c unisex bike.

While members were in the area, they noticed another home on Fryday Rd. with the front door open and took a closer look. The door had been forced open and access was gained. The home was vacant and therefore empty.

On June 21, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., a home on St. Margaret’s Bay Rd. in Hubbards was broken into. The home was accessed through an unlocked basement door. 

Recent break an enters have occurred to homes near the rails to trail system. The RCMP is reminding residents to lock their homes and to keep valuables out of sight.

June 18, 2021, Queensland, Nova Scotia…Halifax District RCMP is investigating four separate break and enter incidents in the Queensland/Hubbards area. 

On June 8, police were notified of a break and enter at a home on Station Rd. in Hubbards. The break-in happened overnight and items were reported missing, including cash. The suspect(s) gained entry through an unlocked window.

On June 14, a church on St. Margarets bay Rd. in Hubbards was broken into. Nothing was stolen, and it appears that the suspect(s) gained entry through an improperly secured door.

On June 15, a home on St. Margarets Bay Rd. in Queensland was broken into and jewelry was taken. The break-in happened between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and entry was gained through an unlocked door.

On June 16, a home on Trailside Rd. in Queensland was broken into between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Access was gained through an unlocked window.
