Public assistance requested: suspicious fire at auto recycling business

October 28, 2019, Valley, Nova Scotia . . . Colchester District RCMP is investigating suspicious fire at an auto recycling business on College Rd. in Valley. The fire was reported to the RCMP on October 19.

On October 19 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Colchester District RCMP responded to a call that some vehicles were on fire in the rear compound of the business. Volunteer firefighters were dispatched as well. When police arrived, several vehicles had already been completely destroyed by fire, suggesting they had been burning for an extended period of time before anyone noticed. The business has been the subject of several incidents of mischief and vandalism after hours.

July 15, 2019, Onslow, Nova Scotia . . . On July 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m.,  an unoccupied vehicle was damaged by shots fired from a passing vehicle. The incident occurred near a home on Elm St. in Onslow.

Members of Colchester District RCMP responded immediately and the initial investigation revealed the passing vehicle used by individuals involved is an older black Volkswagen Golf. The vehicle has a damaged windshield and the rear window is covered in plastic and is secured with red tape.

Colchester District RCMP is seeking assistance from the public to assist with this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detachment in Bible Hill at 902-893-6820. Help the RCMP solve an arson

July 2, 2019, Bible Hill, Nova Scotia . . . On July 1 at 8:20 a.m., Colchester District RCMP responded to a suspicious fire at a residence in Bible Hill Estates Trailer Park. A woman went to the home to pick up an item and when she opened the door, smoke poured from the building. She called 911. Bible Hill Fire Department responded to the scene and noted signs that the fire had been intentionally set. The home, located on Wild Chance Dr. was empty at the time and no one was injured.

Investigators believe that the fire was set between 10 p.m. on June 30 and 8:20 a.m. on July 1. Police would like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area in that time period. Two drive-by shootings in Colchester County

 

June 25, 2019, Onslow Mountain, Colchester County, Nova Scotia . . . On June 23, Colchester District RCMP responded to a call at 5:27 a.m. indicating gunshots had been fired at a residence on Adam MacCallum Rd. in Onslow Mountain, while the occupants were inside. The caller told police a small dark vehicle came back towards the residence a short time later and shots were then fired at a vehicle parked in the driveway. No one was hurt.

During the investigation, police learned that another residence on West North River Rd. had been struck by gunshots earlier that morning. No one was hurt during that incident. The two residences are less than three kilometres from one another. Police have arrested two people in connection with this incident, however they have since been released without charges.

These incidents are being investigated by the General Investigation Section of Colchester District RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. Police have searched both homes and have examined the vehicles involved. Investigators have reached out to neighbours in the areas of both locations and are reaching out to the public for information on both incidents. Man injured in shooting at home in Onslow Mountian

December 13, 2018, Onslow Mountain, Colchester County, Nova Scotia . . . At approximately 10 p.m. on December 12, a man was injured when several shots were fired at a home on Onslow Mountain Rd. The initial investigation has indicated that several other shots were fired. A vehicle was damaged by gun shots as well. In addition to the victim, a woman and an another man were present in the home when the incident occurred, and they were not injured. Investigators have determined that the suspect(s) parked a vehicle on the road near the home, approached on foot, then left the area in the vehicle. Initial indications are leading police to believe this was not a random act.

The victim was transported via EHS to local hospital then taken via LifeFlight to hospital in Halifax for further medical treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The investigation is being led by the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crimes Unit. Additional RCMP resources assisting with the investigation are Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services. May 24, 2018, Stewiacke, Nova Scotia . . . Colchester District RCMP is investigating a complaint of Break, Enter and Theft that occurred between May 22 and May 24, from the garage of a residence on Pleasant Hill.

The suspect(s) entered a garage and took construction tools, including a power drill, from within. The door was not locked at the time. The investigation is ongoing.

Hit & Run

On Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m. RCMP, EHS and Truro Fire Service responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 102 – southbound lane. The investigation has determined that a white semi-trailer truck (not hauling a trailer) collided with a car, causing the car to spin out of control and slam into the centre cement median. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Initially, the driver of the semi-trailer truck pulled over. However, they left the scene without checking on the status of the people in the vehicle or providing details. It is believed that the semi-trailer truck would have red paint transfer on the front right corner.

Theft

April 16, 2018, Lower Truro, Nova Scotia . . . At 5 p.m. on April 12, a man entered a store on Robie St. and stole two barcode scanners, which are the devices used by store employees to verify prices and determine inventory. The value of the two devices is approximately $3600.00.

The suspect is described as male, 40 to 45 years old, 6-foot-2 with a large build, brown skin, and a beard. He left the store in a small dark-coloured sedan in an unknown direction of travel. His image was captured on the store’s surveillance video.
