RCMP fraud alert: E-Transfer Scam
November 27, 2018, Enfield, Nova Scotia . . . East Hants District RCMP would like to alert the public about a recent e-transfer scam.
On November 26, a home seller was contacted by email from what appeared to be their home realtor requesting an e-transfer to be held in trust pending a home inspection.
Only after the e-transfer was accepted, the home owner contacted their real-estate agent and learned that they had not requested a deposit. The investigation determined that the real-estate agent’s email had been hacked.
The investigation is continuing.
The RCMP suggests as a preventive measure, verify with your real-estate agent before transferring any funds.
