Police investigate assault

Halifax Regional Police is investigating an assault that occurred in Dartmouth last week.

On March 22 at approximately 10:10 p.m. officers responded to a report of an injured person in the area of 95 Victoria Road in Dartmouth.  Officers located a 17-year-old youth who appeared to have been assaulted. The youth was taken to hospital for what are believed to be non- life-threatening injuries.

Police investigate suspicious death

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred in Dartmouth this morning.

At approximately 7:10 a.m. police received a report of a disturbance in an apartment building on Pinecrest Drive. Officers located an adult male inside the building who was deceased and arrested a 47-year-old man at the scene.

The investigation is in the early stages and more information will be provided when it becomes available.

Help Cumberland RCMP solve a truck theft

On the 8th of March, 2024 RCMP was advised that a Chevrolet Silverado had gotten stuck in the
mud off of Black River Road in Oxford, NS. The owner left the vehicle overnight and when he came
back in the morning to get it out it was gone. The vehicle is described as a 2017 silver Chev Silverado,
the vehicle had a New Brunswick temporary registration plate in the front window.

Help Cumberland RCMP solve another ATV Theft

On the 2nd of December, 2023, someone stole a 1999 red Honda 300, 3 wheeler and a 2013 yellow Can-Am Commander side by side from Highway 204 in Little River, NS. Photos of ATVs are below.

There have been a number of thefts in the area recently and police are looking for information related to these thefts. Police investigate hit and run

Halifax Regional Police is investigating a hit and run that occurred in Dartmouth yesterday.

Police received a report of a vehicle pedestrian collision that occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Main Street near Forrest Hills Parkway. A vehicle struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk as they were crossing the turning lane from the Forest Hills Extension to Main Street inbound to Dartmouth. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued inbound towards Dartmouth. The pedestrian was treated at the scene by EHS.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a white woman in her 30s or 40s with dark brown hair and medium build. The vehicle is described as dark red hatchback car.

Cape Breton Regional Police Investigate possible Arsons

Location: Northside Auto Salvage – Building / 42 Muir Street, North Sydney 

On 2023/09/19 / 03:23 hrs, CBRPS responded to a structure fire at the said business. On arrival police noted NSFD on scene extinguishing  a building on fire. The fire was later deemed as suspicious and currently under investigation by the CBRPS – Arson Section.

Cape Breton Regional Police are also investigating a suspicious fire on 23/11/19 @ 9:20 pm

Location: Vacant House – 1226 May Street, Scotchtown

Fire was attended by Fire Department, Deputy Fire Marshall and police. Fire cause was noted as suspicious in nature. File: 2023075398

RCMP seek information about suspicious incident in Lake Echo

March 18, 2024, Lake Echo, Nova Scotia… RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is investigating a suspicious incident of a man approaching a youth on Thomas St. in Lake Echo.

On March 18, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers responded to a report that an unknown man had approached a female youth near a playground on Thomas St. and asked her to come with him in his van. Upon seeing another female youth at the playground, the man fled on foot into a wooded area nearby. Extensive patrols of the area were made, but the man could not be located.

The man is described as white, with short brown hair, moustache, and facial stubble. He was wearing a jean jacket, black t-shirt, jeans, black shoes and a chain.

The investigation is ongoing. RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment would like to speak to the man regarding the circumstances of the interaction.

Police seeking information after shooting in North Preston

UPDATE: Shooting in North Preston being investigated as a homicide

March 20, 2024, North Preston, Nova Scotia
… The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is seeking information in relation to a homicide in North Preston.

On March 14, at approximately 4:23 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, with assistance from Halifax Regional Police, responded to a report of a shooting on Downey Rd. Police responded immediately and located a man with a gunshot wound.

On March 18, the victim, 18-year-old Dieago Downey, succumbed to his injuries in hospital; the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has ruled his death a homicide.

“We’re appealing to people who witnessed the shooting or have information about the incident to come forward,” says Sgt. Withrow. “We’re talking about the life of a young man lost to a senseless act of violence. If you know what happened, or have video of the area around the time of the shooting, please contact investigators; your willingness to speak up could make a difference in identifying those responsible for Mr. Downey’s death.”

Investigators are also looking to speak with anyone who may have knowledge of Downey’s movements prior to the 4:23 p.m. 911 call.

The Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact police at 902-490-5020.

March 15, 2024, North Preston, Nova Scotia… The RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is seeking information in relation to a shooting in North Preston that left one man with life-threatening injuries.

On March 14, at approximately 4:23 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, with assistance of Halifax Regional Police, responded to a report of a shooting on Downey Rd. Police immediately responded and located an 18-year-old man outside with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers provided first aid until EHS arrived. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries.

Throughout the investigation, officers found numerous shell casings and damage consistent with bullet holes. No other injuries have been reported to police.

At this time, the Special Investigations Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate. Investigators do not believe this was a random act, and the investigation is ongoing with a police presence still at the scene.
